Joseph Holmes Wiley

Fruitland- Joseph Holmes Wiley, 88, of Fruitland, passed away on Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at his sister's home in Fruitland. Born in Reisterstown, MD he was the son of the late Benjamin H. Wiley and Lucy M. Glotfelty Wiley

Joe served in the United States Army during World War II and received a Purple Heart. After the war he attended University of Maryland and received a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture in 1949. Joe also became an ordained Lutheran missionary and served in Liberia from 1955 to 1966. After his return from Liberia he worked in the local tractor store in Reisterstown from 1967 to 1977. Joe retired to the Eastern Shore in 1988.

Joe is survived by his sister Kathleen Malone and her husband Carl, his sister-in-law Virginia Wiley. He is also survived by 13 nieces, nephews and many great nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Wilbur Wiley, Marian Walsh, Roland Wiley, Thomas Wiley, Carvel Boston and a niece Mary Wiley.

A Graveside Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2013 in St. Paul's Lutheran Church Cemetery, Upperco, MD at 11 A.M.

The family request donations to be made in his memory to the Coastal Hospice, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802-1733.
