Mamie Gargan Obituary
Crisfield-Mamie J. Gargan, 95, of Crisfield, passed away on Sunday, September 24, 2017 at Alice Byrd Tawes Nursing Home.
Mamie was born in Chance, MD on December 29, 1921. She was the daughter of the late John N. Jones and Margaret Maggie Jones. She left Chance and moved to Baltimore during her teens. Mamie and her late husband, Pete Gargan, retired to the Eastern Shore in 1969.
She was active in the Crisfield AARP, Crisfield Lioness Lions Club, and Immanuel United Methodist Church. She wore many hats in each organization and received the prestigious Melvin Jones award from the Lioness Lions Club. She was also up until four months before her hospitalization, a member of the Crisfield Golden Girls.
She is survived by a daughter, Kathy Sterling and her husband Greg; a grandson, Clint Sterling and his wife Cindy; three great-grandchildren, Caroline, Cole, and Cate; a special friend and neighbor, Mary Lou Rice; a special niece, Pat Davis; and several nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents and husband, preceding her in death were two brothers, John Jones and Denwood Jones; and two sisters, Margaret Davis and Gladys Sonnenleiter.
Memorial Services at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home will be held on Friday, September 29, 2017 at 2 PM where a visitation will be one hour prior. The Rev. Paul Holland will officiate. Urn interment in Sunnyridge Memorial Park will be at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Immanuel United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, c/o Robert H. Bradshaw, Jr., 306 W. Main St.; or Crisfield Lioness Lions Club, P.O. Box 385; both Crisfield, MD 21817.
