Mary L. McHugh

OCEAN PINES—Mary Lurana McHugh, 91, died Sunday, March 11, 2012, at the home of her daughter in Ocean Pines. Born in Boston, Mass., she was a daughter of the late Jeremiah Sweeney and Mary Tobin Sweeney.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Joseph McHugh; a daughter, Sheila Croker; and two grandsons, Scott Bayne and Timothy Croker. She is survived by her son, Kevin McHugh and his wife, Robin, of Annapolis; and daughters, Karen Bayne and her husband, Douglas, of Walla Walla, Wash., Maureen Scheetz and her husband, Dr. Walter Scheetz, of Bethany Beach and Kathleen Conahan and her husband, Daniel, of Ocean Pines. There are 11 grandchildren, Kevin Bayne, Jennifer Lemma, Karen Kennedy, Terri Orofino, Kelly Polek, Melissa McManus, Sheila DeBow, Sean Winter, Justin Winter, Sean McHugh and Shannon Burgoon. There are 19 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brothers, James, Gerald, Daniel and John Sweeney.

Mrs. McHugh had been employed as a secretary with the Social Security Administration division of the federal government. She was also a member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held Thursday at 2 p.m., at St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Ocean Pines. The Rev. John Kavanaugh will officiate. Interment will be at a later date in New Calvary Cemetery in Mattapan, Mass. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to Hospice of the Chesapeake, Philanthropy Department, 445 Defense Highway, Annapolis, Md. 21401; or Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriot's Way, Milford, Del. 19963-5800; or Coastal Hospice, PO Box 1733, Salisbury, Md. 21802. Arrangements are in the care of the Burbage Funeral Home in Berlin.
