Raymond Meals Obituary

Raymond Edward Meals, III

Princess Anne - Surrounded by his loving family, Raymond Edward Meals, III, 78, died peacefully on January 27, 2018, at his daughter's home in Princess Anne, MD. Born on January 6, 1940 in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late Raymond Meals, Jr. and Irene Riley Thomas; and brother of the late Robert Meals.

Ray is survived by his two daughters, Carrie Meals of Princess Anne and Molly Meals Wilkinson and her husband, Doug Wilkinson of Laurel, MD. Ray was a proud Grandpa to six grandchildren—Lanny Fisher, Laura Fisher, Megan Fisher, Douglas Wilkinson, Mary Wilkinson and Caroline Fisher.

Ray graduated from high school in St. Michaels, MD and attended Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore where he majored in finance and accounting. Early in his career, Ray worked as an accountant for the Lord Baltimore Hotel and later joined a division of Warner-Lambert Pharmaceutical Company based in the Bromo-Seltzer Tower Building. In 1962, Ray enlisted in the US Army and served his entire tour of duty in the Finance Corp in Vietnam and Thailand.

In 1969, Ray joined the Rouse Company, where he worked with and was inspired by James Rouse, the legendary founder and developer of Columbia in Howard County, MD. Ray's career in development and finance spanned more than 40 years, during which he became Executive Vice President of the Columbia Association, and later joined Rouse's Enterprise Foundation as Treasurer. In the mid-1980's, he moved to Orlando, FL to work for a developer. Ray developed/managed Church Street Station, a retail and entertainment complex. Having earned experience and respect in the industry, Ray was recruited in the early 1990's to lead a development project in Beijing, China, where he lived and worked as an entrepreneur for the final 7 years of his professional life. In 2001, he returned to the United States and retired in Princess Anne, MD to be near his family and friends. He will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts!

Services will be private.
