RODD OWENS Obituary

Rodd Q. Owens

DELMAR ? Rodd Q. Owens, 52, of Delmar died Monday, Feb. 28, 2011, at University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore, due to complications from a brief illness.

He was born Aug. 4, 1958, in Salisbury, a son of the late Ralph Orvel Owens and Mildred Ester (Wilson) Owens.

Rodd graduated from Delmar High school with the class of 1976. He spent 25 years working as a pump tester at Dresser Pump in Salisbury prior to their closing. For the last few years, Rodd had worked in sales for Keen Compressed Gases in Salisbury. He was also proud of his grass-cutting business, calling himself "Grass Man" for the past 15 years.

He loved tinkering on motors and his truck, going to mud hops and was an active member of the Gumboro Mudslingers. He also loved the outdoors, fishing and camping with his family and friends. He was a die-hard wrestling fan who loved to watch the Monday night matches on television.

He is survived by his wife of almost 21 years, Jamie Christine (Warrell) Owens; a daughter, Alexandria N. Lord and her husband, Daniel, of Laurel; a granddaughter, who was the love of his life, Kendra D. Lord; a sister, Anna Mae Rounds and her husband, William, of Delmar; a brother, Warren O. Owens and his wife, Rose Ellen, of Parsonsburg; mother-in-law, Patricia A. Dyes of Hurlock; father-in-law, James G. Warrell of Texas; brother-in-law, Gregory J. Warrell and his wife, Angie, of Seaford; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and -nephews, cousins, an aunt and an uncle. He is also survived by his beloved Great Dane, Sam-Sam.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his best friend since he was 8 years old, Bruce Chance.

A visitation for family and friends will be held Friday from 6-8 p.m. at Short Funeral Home, Delmar, and also Saturday from 10-11 a.m., followed by a funeral service to be held at 11 a.m. Interment will follow the services in St. Stephen's Cemetery in Delmar.

How the time moves on, I want each of you to remember all the special memories you have had as a family since then. In liu of flowers I will be senting a gift to Kendra trust fund. Jamie, please accept our condolences. I have very fond memories of growing up living next door to the Owens'. Rodd was always over our house and like my brother said, one of the first friends we ever made when we moved here from Baltimore. I smile when I think of the pet chicken he had ..he first called it Chester and realized it was a female and changed its name quickly to Chesterette. He'd rescued it when it fell from a Perdue truck. That's just one of many stories that make me smile when I think of Rodd. That's just the type of person he was. When I worked at the hospital and a large snow storm hit in the middle of my shift, he came and picked up Bev Wilson and I at midnight one night just so we didn't have to spend all night at the hospital. Again, that was the kind of person he was! We have another angel watching over us up there now. My family and I will keep you all close in thought and prayer during this most difficult time.

My Father and his heart that lived outside of his body.
