Rosalind Abbott Obituary

Rosalind Mills Abbott

Salisbury-Rosalind Mills Abbott departed life on Wednesday, March 26, 2014, at Coastal Hospice on the Lake after a long illness. Born in Quantico on September 23, 1921, she was the daughter of Ernest and Louise Mills.

Rosalind was an exceptional scholar at Wicomico High School then married and worked with her husband Lewis at Abbott Brothers Furniture then Abbott Home Improvement Company until his passing in 1961. She continued to manage their rental property business until later in life while devoting much time to her to children and other family. Rosalind served the Salisbury community by being a member of the Junior Board Auxiliary at Peninsula Regional Medical Center, worked to bring a local chapter of the National Kidney Foundation to Salisbury, The Wicomico County Health Department Social Services and her active memberships in many other organizations. She was President and Secretary of the Wicomico chapter of the General Federation of Women for many terms and a member of the organization for decades. Rosalind was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church for 69 years teaching bible and Sunday school, involved with the Episcopal Church Women, served on the Vestry and Altar Guild and volunteered in the office until she was 87.

Rosalind attributed her longevity to growing up on a farm with a loving family, her active and healthy lifestyle, her faith and trust in God and the medical care given to her by John Barkovich of Peninsula Surgical Group.

She leaves to cherish her memory her children Linda Anne Abbott and Ronald Lee Abbott and his wife Marcy, grandchildren Lex Abbott and Jenna Abbott Hoch, nieces and nephews Sarah Louise Hopkins, Les Chandler, Gary Chandler, Susan Chandler Spengler, Donna Massa, Norris Mathews, Lynn Neith, Dana Malone, Mitch Wyatt, Robert Dickey, Jr., Sally Eschenberg, Lisa Dickey, other third and fourth generation nieces and nephews, extended family members and friends.

Rosalind was preceded in death by her husband Lewis Alexander Abbott, son Lewis A. "L.A." Abbott, Jr., her niece Barbara Wyatt, sisters Fay Chandler, Mable Dickey, Myrna Mathews, Iris Lyons, Beulah Sermon, Hyland Mills and Oliver Mills and her parents Ernest and Louis Mills.

Funeral services for Rosalind will be private and officiated by Father David Michaud of St. Peter's Episcopal Church with a celebration of her life at a later date. Interment will be at Parson's Cemetery.

The family request that donations be made to St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 115 St. Peters Street, Salisbury, MD 21804 or Coastal Hospice on the Lake, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802.

So, sorry for your loss.It is comforting to know that God provides hope,at Daniel 12:4-God promises that "Many of those asleep in the dust of the earth will wake up." Think of the happiness you will feel when you see your loved one again.
