Hwang, Yong-Hyen

Salisbury-Dr. Yong Hyen Hwang, M.D., 75, of San Francisco, CA passed away Thursday, Oct. 2, 2014, at his home in San Francisco.

Born on September 1, 1939, in Jinju, South Korea. He was the son of Oh-Yoon Hwang, a dean of an agriculture university in Korea, and Ga-Soon Jeong.

He graduated from Pusan National University School of Medicine, one of ten flagship Korean national universities. He then served in the Korean Navy as a medical officer in ophthalmology. He moved to the U.S. and completed his specialty training in Obstetrics and Gynecology in New York. In his private medical practice, Dr. Hwang served families in Salisbury, Maryland and surrounding areas for 35+ years. He was a fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He published a case study on listeriosis during pregnancy in the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Dr. Hwang was also an elder and bible study leader of the Full Gospel Church in San Francisco as well as an avid golfer. He was a firm believer in daily exercise and a healthy diet, both of which he maintained until his death.

He is survived by son Stephen Hwang and daughter-in-law Kathy Hwang, daughter Gloria Hwang and son-in-law Terrence Huey, and daughter, Susan J. Hwang, and grandchildren, Madeline Hwang & Gabriel Hwang, and mother Ga-Soon Jeong, and siblings So-Boo Hwang, Joong-Boo Hwang, Woo-Hyen Hwang, Young-Hee Hwang. He was preceded in death by his father, Oh-Yoon Hwang

The memorial service was held at Full Gospel Church located on 1480 Ellis St. in San Francisco on Monday, Oct. 6, at 7 p.m., with a visitation to meet the family after the service. The Rev. Kwang-Chin Oh officiated.
