Darren Jones

1945 - 2025

Darren Gay Jones died peacefully Friday, September 26, 2025, in Grand Junction, Co. surrounded by his wife, daughter and beloved niece. He was 80 years old.
Darren was born August 22, 1945 in Eckert, Colorado to Darrel F. and Lavene L. Jones. His father's work took the family to many parts of the United States, but he spent most of his childhood in the Cedaredge area.
He enlisted in the Navy in 1962. He served on the USS Kittyhawk. He became a heavy equipment operator and worked jobs that took him to all parts of Colorado, Arizona, Nevada, Virginia and a gold mine in British Columbia. He was superintendent on the I-70 project near Rifle when he was only 21. Darren retired several times throughout his life, but couldn't resist an opportunity and was "pushing dirt and rolling rocks" as recently as a month ago. He was very well respected by his peers.
Darren thoroughly enjoyed life. He loved fishing, hunting, camping, riding atv's, boating, gardening and trips to Mexico.
Darren is survived by his wife, Gail Jones of Eckert, his son Brian Jones of Cedaredge and daughter Christy Pierce (Jim Pierce) of Grand Junction, and 6 grandchildren. He is also survived by his best buddies Cash and Sage, his Miniature Aussie's.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Denise Renee Hess and his 3 brothers, James E. Jones of Montrose, Jerry K. Jones of Cal-Nev-Ari, NV and Dennis Jones of Cedaredge.
A private ceremony will be held graveside in Cedaredge, Co. There are currently no plans for a memorial service with friends and family.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brown's Cremation and Funeral Service.
