David Dapkus Obituary

David August Dapkus, 82, passed away at home on August 31, 2025 of heart failure. Born January 27,1942, Dave was born in White Salmon, Washington to August and Virginia Dapkus. He graduated from Portland State College in 1967. Following a short time with Army Map Service in Washington DC, and on Bainbridge Island, Washington, his family moved to Alaska with the Bureau of Outdoor Recreation. While with BOR he worked with teams that floated many Alaska river systems to assess their recreational value. These trips led to 25 Alaska rivers being selected for the National Wild and Scenic program. He later worked for the Bureau of Land Management, and the Fish and Wildlife Service in Alaska, retiring in 1999 as a Park Ranger. Dave and Jacki moved to Cedaredge in 2003. Built their home and enjoyed years in the "lower 48" travelling, visiting family and friends, pheasant hunting over their dogs. Dave is survived by his wife Jacki, daughter Lisa Dapkus of Wichita, Ks, son Leigh Backus (Alan) or Brunswick, Ga, stepson Neil Warren (Kristin) and granddaughter Ava Warren of Anchorage, Ak. No service is planned. Raise a glass and tell a story of a life well lived.
