Kenneth Wesley Shiflet
May 5, 1935 - February 1, 2025
Kenneth Wesley Shiflet was born 5 May 1935 in Fowler, Meade, Kansas to Edna Julia Dalton Shiflet and Wesley Howard Shiflet. He moved to Delta County, Colorado with his parents and older brother from Springfield, Colorado in September 1936.
He graduated from Cedaredge High School, Cedaredge, Colorado. He then went on to graduate from El Paso Community College in Colorado Springs with an associate's degree in criminal justice and GORMAC School of Polygraph in Arcadia, California.
Ken married Shirley A. Varner on 27 December 1953. She passed away on 30 November 1991. Ken married Helen Frederick on 15 January 1998.
Ken served with "C" Company, 157th Regimental Combat Team, Colorado National Guard from 12 February 1952 through 17 January 1955. He entered active duty with the U. S. Army on 19 January 1955. Upon completion of Basic Training at Fort Riley, Kansas and Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, Ken was assigned to "A" Company, 41st Engineer Battalion (Combat), 19th Infantry Division in Kitzengen, Germany. He was honorably discharged 27 December 1957.
Ken joined the Colorado State Patrol on 8 June 1959, with duty assignments including Denver, Colorado Springs, Montrose, and Greeley. Ken retired with the rank of Sergeant on 26 February 1991.
Ken was a Life Member of B.P.O. Elks #809. He enjoyed the outdoors and was a Life Member of the National Rifle Association. He was very active in various police organizations, and served as a Charter member, past President and Life Member of the American Association of Police Polygraphists, as past President of the Colorado State Patrol Protective Association, and as a Life member and past President of Northeast Colorado Peace Officers Association. Ken was very active in Lions Clubs International, serving as past President of Greeley Noon Lions Club, past District Governor of 6-N and past State Council Chairman of MD-6. Ken enjoyed the game of golf and was past President of Highland Hill's Senior Men's Golf Association.
Ken loved his family, photography, travel, and fishing.
Ken is predeceased by his parents; his first wife Shirley; daughter Susan Kay; stepdaughter Lisa Dunne; brothers Jay D. Shiflet and Delmar M. Shiflet; one sister Karen J. Speer; three brothers-in-law, Ronald Hendricks, Kenneth Muhle and Rob Robbins; two sisters-in-law, Edna Muhle and Peggy Shiflet; three nephews; two great nephews; and a great niece.
Ken is survived by his wife, Helen Frederick; daughters Beth Ann Baumgartner (John) and Karen Lee Neff (Micheal); stepdaughter Jan Guerra (Tom); stepson Scott Frederick (Marty), Clay Frederick (Lynne), and; stepson in law, Shay Dunne (Cheryl); by 10 grandkids: John-Wesley Neff (Ivey), Levi Neff, Kristin Guerra, Shannon Guerra (Daryn George), Cole Frederick, Jenessa Frederick (Nick Morris), Dane (Breanna) Frederick, and Tara Hampton (Aaron), Kyle Dunne and Ciara Dunne; by four great grandsons: Zakk Neff, Frankie Jay Neff, Harvey Hampton and Everett Hampton; by his sister Sherri Robbins of Golden, Colorado; and his brother Frank (Umeko) Shiflet of Troy, Illinois; his sister-in-law, Elma Jean Hendricks of Newnan, Georgia; special cousin Bob Ford; and several nieces; nephews; great nieces; and great nephews.
Services will be held Thursday 13 February 2025 at 2 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church, 2307 17th Ave., Greeley CO 80631.
