Marvin Carr Obituary

Marvin Lee Carr was born December 15, 1946, in Grand Junction, Colorado, to James "Jamie" and Irene (Livingston) Carr. He passed on October 29, 2025, at Delta Health of multiple health challenges surrounded by his loving family. The family was blessed by the community of caregivers in Grand Junction, Delta, and Montrose and Hotchkiss EMS first responders.
Marvin grew up on the family farm and up Leroux Creek. He attended church and was baptized in the North Fork of the Gunnison. He worked for many local families including memorable times with Ben Sheldon. He attended Hotchkiss Schools graduating in 1965. In high school sports he participated in football, wrestling and track as well as joining National Thespian Society. Marvin attended Adams State College on a wrestling scholarship for a year and a half before transferring to CSU where he earned a BS in Industrial Science Education in 1970.
Marvin married the love of his life, Pauline Majnik, on March 9, 1968, in Danforth Chapel on the CSU campus. A marriage of love and laughter that lasted 57 years. Two children were born to this union. Margaret Irene Chad Aaron. He was a devoted family man who enjoyed time with family. He was a humble man of integrity who honored the wisdom of God in all his dealings. Slow to speak but always with kindness and a sense of humor that caught you off guard.
After graduating college, Marvin taught shop at Grand Valley High School for ten years teaching woodworking, auto repair, welding, leathercraft, basic construction, drafting, and driver's education as well as coaching football. After moving back to Hotchkiss, he worked at Hawks Nest Mine getting his electrician's papers while building a family home on Rogers Mesa. In 1991 the new home was traded to his mother in exchange for the family farm where he again built a shop and a portion of the family home. After that he served as a custodian as well as refereeing wrestling and score keeping at tournaments at Hotchkiss High School and Hotchkiss Middle School before retiring in 2001. He continued to run the family farm and care for their Hereford cow/calf operation. He was a master irrigator spending many hours at the end of a shovel.
Marvin was a 52 year Elks member initiated in Rifle, Colorado, later transferring to Hotchkiss Elks. He was a longtime member of NRA and rifle hunter every year of his life stalking elk to put meat on the family table. He served as an EMT on the Grand Valley ambulance and as a volunteer fire fighter. He was a universal blood donor and donated many pints of O Negative. He served on the boards of Leroux Creek Water Users and Highline Ditch as well as serving multiple years as president of the Highline Board. He knew every nick and cranny of Leroux Creek drainage and closed the reservoirs for the ditch company. He was an avid snowmobiler and a member of North Fork Snowmobile Club. Many adventurous snowmobile and 4-wheeler trips were taken with his buddies Mike Picard and Sam Dennison looking for moose, hunting, fishing and just enjoying each other's company. He put in many of the trail markers on the trails up Leroux Creek. Being an animal lover from a young age he often had dog companions, but his rat terriers, Pee Wee and Magoo were his irrigating and 4-wheeler buddies who were the owners of his truck, occasionally letting his friends ride along.
Marvin is survived by his wife, Pauline of the family farm, daughter: Marge Carr-Wind and husband Rik Wind, Son: Chad Carr and wife Mia. He was proud of his many grandsons: Martin, Anson, and Quintin Wind, Aidan, Daxton, James, Asher, and Jordan Carr. He was especially blessed with one great granddaughter Mila and another on the way. Also his brothers: John (Ellen), Dan, Ed (Ginny), and Steven and sisters-in-law, Rose Miller and Betty Majnik. He was greatly loved and will be missed by his many nieces, nephews, extended family, multiple friends, and his dog, Sunny. He was proceeded in death by his parents, and a sister-in-law, Mary Carr.
