Mass of Christian burial will be at 2 p.m. Monday, July 6, 2015, at St. Ann's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Manuel Ibarra officiating. Louis moved to Deming in the early 1940s. He was the grandson of Michele and Gatrudas Tarazon Quarello and Hilario and Teresa Munoz Lucero and Alejandro Estrada, and the son of Michael (Chapo) and Apolonia (Pola ) Quarrell. Louis attended school in Lewis Flats, Smith Elementary and Deming Junior and Senior High School, where he played junior varsity football. At 12, Louis worked with Don Pasqual Pacheco making adobe bricks and at 13 he drove a supply truck for the mine at Cooks Peak for his father. During summer breaks, he worked his first full-time job at the Deming Army Air Base during World War II. Louis also worked in the Carlton mines with his grandfather, improving springs and water tanks and driving employees to work at age 14. In 1947, Skeeter Williams gave Louis a job at the Deming Meat Packing Co. Louis enjoyed his school art classes, where he met Maria (Mary) Gonzalez, who would become his wife on Nov. 2, 1950. In the mid-1950s, Louis played in the Minor Baseball League for the Deming Merchants, traveling to play teams from the southwest New Mexico and adjacent Mexican cities. In 1966, Louis and Mary purchased four acres of land and built a home for their family of 12. Louise also worked part time at the Country Club and Yucca Cafe. After 30 years with D-Pac, Louis went to work for Reynolds Electrical and Engineering in Nevada at the Tonopah Test Range, working specifically on the secret F-117A Stealth Fighter Program as general foreman of Roads and Grounds.

Louis enjoyed camping, hiking, hunting, shooting archery and metal detecting with his family in the surrounding mountains, with a special interest in local history and archaeology. He was a fan of the Dallas Cowboys and Chicago Cubs. His favorite city is Deming, favorite place the Forks in Gila National Forest and his best friends have been his children. He loved making breakfast at the crack of dawn for his family, and would patiently wait for everyone to join him in the kitchen for the first cup of coffee. He loved to play bingo in Las Vegas and during family gatherings at home. He was a master at creating wood carvings, which he made for his family. He loved collecting cans and giving the proceeds to the needy. He supported the local animal shelter out of his love and compassion for them. He enjoyed watching "Jeopardy" and "Wheel of Fortune" nightly with family. He was a master at completing word puzzles. He considered his greatest accomplishments owning the home they lived in and the annual family reunions on Thanksgiving. Louis will best be remembered for his lively sense of humor and being an exceptionally devoted husband, loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Their children include, Mary Ramirez, the late Virginia Quarrell, Margo (Terry) Lamuraglia, Louie Quarrell Jr., Bobby Joe Quarrell, John (Barb) Quarrell and daughter-in-law, Jamie Quarrell, the late Steve Quarrell, Julie (Stephan) Saia, Lilly Quarrell and Michelle Burnside; brothers, Barney (Bertha) Quarrell, Mike (Marlene) Quarrell, James (Kathy) Quarrell, Frank (Mary) Quarrell and Charlie (JoAnn) Quarrell; sister Paulette Quarrell; grandchildren, Amber, Angie, Ben, Celeste, Charlie, Christan, Cody, David, Ed, Emma, Grace, Helena, Isabella, Johnathon, Josh, Lori, Michele, Nick and Sarah as well as 25 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Mary Gonzalez Quarrell.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial contributions be made in his memory to the American Lung Association and local Deming Animal Shelter.
