Sad news and my sincerest condolences to all. I have many fond memories of my time spent with Al, his family and extended family. Actually, I could could probably fill a small book. For most of the 1970's & 80's we connected in many ways starting with my hiring as a 13 year old at his grocery store, mutual love of sports, especially baseball, helping with his political campaigns, learning how to drive his extended Dodge van in the snow full of supplies for the store, having him umpire ballgames I was involved in where he he would act like he didn't know you in order to be impartial and our mutual employment at Bausch & Lomb where we worked as toolmakers. Thank you Al and rest in peace !

To Al's family: I would like to express my condolences on behalf of the Rochester District Umpires Association. Al was a long time umpire in our organization,a member of our Board of Directors, anda Life Member (our Hall of Fame) after he retired. I personally worked many games with him and he was a fair, conscientous and honorable man. God Bless him and all of you. - Chuck Healey - RDUA President
