Arthur Anvik Obituary

Arthur John Anvik, age 98, of Statesboro, Ga., formerly of Glendive, Mont., and Lake Havasu City, Ariz., passed away Thursday, November 6, 2008, at Ogeechee Area Hospice.
Visitation will be held on Sunday evening from 5-7 p.m. at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home in Statesboro.
A memorial service will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church at the corner of Highway 67 and the 301 Bypass in Statesboro. A reception will follow in the social hall.
Arthur John Anvik was born on March 28, 1910, in Muriel, Mont., the son of Amund Amundson and Ingeborg (Gjerde) Anvik, the second of 11 children. His parents and older sister were born in Norway. Art was the first child in the family born in the United States. He was raised on the family farm in Four Mile, Mont., and besides working on the family farm, he worked on neighboring farms and at the Ft. Peck Dam and brought home his wages to help feed the family during the depression years.
Arthur married Maxine Dickey in 1938, and after farming a few years, they moved to Glendive, Mont., where he worked as a carpenter and later they owned and operated the Uptown Motel. In Glendive, Art was an active member of Our Savior Lutheran Church of Glendive and served in several offices there. Art helped with the construction of the church.
Art and Maxine retired to Arizona near Yuma and then to Lake Havasu City. There they were active members of Mount Olive Lutheran Church and enjoyed traveling and playing cards with their friends. In 2004, Art and Maxine moved to Statesboro, Ga., to spend their final years with their daughter, Nelda Bishop.
Art was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers, Otto, Clifford, Arnold, Melvin and Elmer; and three sisters, Christine Martin, Ann Sloan and Arlene Monson.
Arthur is survived by his loving wife, Maxine; and their four children, Ardean Anvik, Elma, Washington, Nelda Rose Bishop, Statesboro, Rollynn Anvik (Barbara) Glendive, Mont., and Kevin Anvik (Dawn) Scottsdale, Ariz.; seven grandchildren, Kimberly Boberg (Andreas), Eric Bishop (Heidi), Katrina Schriock (Wako), Tessa, Heather, Matthew and Zachary Anvik; four great-grandchildren, Jaden John Reichelt, Zoe Rose Schriock, Hannah Rose Boberg and Gage Michael Schriock. Surviving also are a brother, Robert Anvik, Billings, Mont.; a sister, Margaret Kaiser, Laurel, Mont.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Honorary pallbearers are Art's many Statesboro friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 18098 Highway 67, Statesboro, Georgia 30458; or Ogeechee Area Hospice, 200 Donehoo Street, Statesboro, Georgia 30458.
