Arthur Wilbert Obituary

Wilbert, Arthur
Webster: Dad passed peacefully on Saturday Sept. 15th at home on the same farm where he was born Sept. 5th 1921. He is survived by his loving wife of over 60 years, Mercedes "Mercy"; five caring children, Sharon, Peter and wife Ellyn, Richard and wife Anna, Barbara (Reiber) and Ronald. He was most proud of his fifteen grandchildren, Michelle, Kari, Kelly, Brian, Cheryl (Raleigh) and husband Paulie, Christin, Tim, Mark, Laura, Eric, Kimberly, Aaron, Melanie, Kevin, and Daniel; one great-granddaughter, Addison Mercedes Raleigh; sister-in-law, Iva Wilbert; nieces & nephews.
Arthur Wilbert had a love and talent for auto body work that started in his high school days at Webster. Dad farmed during the season and repaired cars all other hours of the day. In 1952, farming ceased and dad devoted himself totally to the car business. His quest to have his own parts to repair cars led him to also purchase cars solely for their parts. He preferred to work on cars of higher quality and value that led to his early specialization in only Buick Automobiles. His hard work and dedication eventually led to Wilbert's Buick and GM Parts receiving many national awards for their modern recycling facility.
With his children running things at the car business, Art was ready for a new challenge and began selling Christmas trees that were originally planted on his farm for screening. His enthusiasm to supply an affordable real tree for everyone led to over 135 acres of trees with Wilbert's Christmas Tree Farm being one of the largest cut your own tree plantations in the upstate region.
Dad was a one of a kind person that enjoyed much success through hard work and freely gave back to the community many of his hard earned rewards.
Friends may call 7-9 P.M. Tues. and 2-4, 7-9 P.M. Wed. at Willard H Scott Funeral Home, 12 South Ave., Webster. Mass of Christian Burial 10 A.M. Thurs. at Holy Trinity Church, 1460 Ridge Rd., Webster, NY 14580. Interment, Holy Trinity Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Trinity Life Center at Holy Trinity Church.

"Uncle" Art's enthusiasm for projects and his imagination made him such an interesting person to be around. His cement pond, the annual manger, and bowling in the basement are just a few things that come to mind when remembering his ideas come to life. Surrounded by such a warm and loving wife and family, he was a lucky man and he knew it. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

My husband, son, and I met your Husband/Father briefly while he was having his radiation treatment at Highland Hospital in April. We had a couple of nice converations about New Smyrna Beach where we also have a condo. He was a nice man and we have often thought about him and wondered how he was doing.

Although you really don't know us we wanted to express our sympathy to your family. This disease takes its toll on not only the person afflicted with the disease but the whole family. We could see in the short time we knew him that his family was totally committed to his care. At least now you can rest assured he is no longer suffering and is at peace.

Art set an example for both personal and business ethics that has never been surpassed. We got to know him through our son, Chris, who has been with Wilbert's for many years, and highly respected him. The family is in our thoughts and devotions.

To all the Wilberts, please accept my deepest condolences. I am in south Florida vacationing with my wife, Barb. Art did much for me as I was learning about cars. I always said that I learned more about cars from Art than I learned in 4 years at college. For all of you, God Bless. For Mercy (Ma Wilbert), be at peace, your loving family will be your pillars of support.

Mr. Art,
I will miss you.

You gave me a start in life at the age of 13, when I came to you for a job. You asked if I could use a screw driver, I said yes. I started building racking for parts the next day, they are still in use today.

After that your goal was to make the yard bigger "longer" which Ron and myself did using the old tractor and what is now called The Old "Orange" Dinaisour. At the time Ron and myself were only 16 and in High School and going thourgh Driver's Ed to drive early at night. Mr. Art didn't like that but we got the job got done "I think on time".

Then I left for the Navy, got in some trouble and Mr. Art and his family were right there to help me out. After the Navy I went to see Mr. Art, he said Lad you have a job. I started two day later, Thank you Mr. Art.

I,ve had two serious delima's since and again Mr. Art and his loving family were there to help.

Mercy, Sharon, Pete, Rick, Barb and Ron I want you to truely know I loved your father and appreciate everything He did and you have done for me.

God bless your Dad and all of us. I will truely miss him. He made a impression on my life as he did yours. He is in Our Gods Hands Now. Bye Art.

Art, you're already missed but will never ever be forgotten. You've been God's right hand man and now he/she needs you back. You've been our earth angel for a long time and the thought of you and/or mention of your name always brings a smile and warm feeling to my heart. You've always been there for me and my "Buick" problems(!) and I'll miss our little talks and filling in when I was your Saturday night bowling partner or even the years on the Wednesday night league!

We are going to miss Art and we are so sorry for your loss. Every fall for the past 11 years, Art would come to our door and ask if the christmas Tree sign could be put in our yard and we would say of course, you do not even have to ask. He would ask every year anyway and we would chat for a while and we found ourselves looking forward to that visit every year. It will be so sad for us to not see him at our door but we will think about him always especially in the fall.
Art also did us a huge favor, the beginning of the year which we were so grateful for. About a month and 1/2 ago or so, he stopped by, chatted for a bit, made sure the favor he did for us was still ok and I think in his own way said his goodbyes.
Art and your entire family is in our thoughts and prayers.

Art was one of the top 3 or 4 most infulencial men of my life. I never left a conversation with him being the same. I always left with something. He was a great teacher. I started working for him as a cocky teenager and left there a confident man. I will always remember him....
