C. Bowering Obituary
Pittsford: June 8, 2012 at the age of 81. Dick died suddenly in an automobile accident in Ontario, Canada on his way to his beloved cottage. Predeceased by his infant granddaughter, Holly Stegemann. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jeanine; son, Gregg (Laurie) Bowering; daughters, Kim (Kelly) Martin and Patricia (Peter) Stegemann; grandchildren, Christopher, Kathryn and Stephen Bowering and Scott, Matthew and David Stegemann; sister, Elaine (Jim) Moon; brother-in-law, Jean Claude (Annie) Mallevays and sister-in-law, Brigitte (Joe) Blood; many nieces and nephews in the US and France, as well as many dear friends both locally and in Canada.
Dick was a lifelong resident of the Rochester area. He graduated from Spencerport High School and attended Syracuse University prior to his service in the US Air Force during the Korean War. After his discharge from the Air Force, he received his Bachelor degree from the University of Rochester in 1958. As the former president of Bowering Homes, Inc., a position now held by his son Gregg, Dick was a well known and respected home builder in the Rochester community.
A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, June 18 at 10 AM at Christ Episcopal Church, 36 South Main St., Pittsford, NY. Interment at White Haven Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to remember Dick may contribute to the Salvation Army of Greater Rochester, 70 Liberty Pole Way, Rochester, NY 14604 or to the Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Gregg, So sorry to hear about the loss of your dad. I only saw him at the jobsite now and then, but he was very friendly and always had a smile. Even a wise-guy to me which made him that much better. He will be missed by all.

My father thought Dick a classy, handsome gentleman. How lucky I was to grow up as your neighbor. You guys fill some of my earliest memories- seeing Dick at the bus stop at your driveway, always smiling and good natured. He kept his garage meticulously clean. Mr. Bowering was a favorite customer of mine! I have been cutting his hair for the past few years. I enjoyed his stories of family, friends, and the cottage. He will be missed and remembered with love! It was a honor to know him.

To the Bowering family,
I'm very saddened to hear the awful news of Mr. B's passing. Growing up with all the Holiday parties and The Pine Crest events can never be taken away;however, we lost a great leader, mentor and friend. The friendship that both Dick and Jeanine Bowering showed my mother right up to her last hours was second to none and we can only hope that his love will live and stay with your family.

Jeanine and family, It was sad to hear the passing of Dick. I met Dick 30 years ago at Hicks and McCarthy with other Pittsford businessmen and our workday coffee "break". He had a tremendous sense of humor and was a true gentlemen. Anyone who met Dick will always have a place in their heart for him.

Dear Jeanine, Gregg, Kim and Tricia,
We are all truly shocked and deeply saddened by Dick's passing. I just cannot believe it! Our families have been intertwined for over 40 years now and there are so many, many memories of all the fun times. We will miss Dick so much – his laughter, warmth and graciousness were so infectious as many others have stated here. I still remember learning to water ski with you all at Kirk Cove, the parties in Pinecrest and all the rest. It is so true that he was a genuine great man, and if I ever had the opportunity to have 2 dads then I would wish he was one. Know that you are surrounded be love and prayers during this most difficult time. I hope he and dad are toasting each other now that they are reunited in heaven.
