The date we all lost Chris Taffe is still on my calendar as a recurring reminder, as is my father's passing earlier the same year. Today, as I was scheduling a medical appointment, I noted it's on the same day. Two of my colleagues and I still recall with fondness how Chris handled Social Security cases on appeal in court. Although he was a consummate professional, he had no fear of showing his human side. I pray his family is doing well despite his absence.

I remember Chris when I was only 4 years old along with his brother Terry and his sisters Patsy and Marybeth. I remember his mother even more. She was a beautiful woman inside and out and was wonderful to my mother and family. I am 62 now and I always had fond memories of Mrs Taffe and the family. Mrs Taffe would play the piano and taught me to sing. She saw a gift in me and I will never ever forget her and how nice everyone was. Mrs. Taffe would play while her children sat around and listed to me belt out tunes from Mary Poppins. Michael Barron

Liz,Brendan,Erin and Alex,
We are all so very sorry and shocked about Chris. We were very sorry to have been unable to attend the funeral and celebration of his wonderful life. Perhaps fittingly, we were away at a vacation/camping trip with family. Adam talked about how Mr. Taffe taught him to start a fire. I sat there on my camping chair complete with footrest(I was inspired to buy such a chair because I first saw Chris with one)thinking of Chris and all the times I saw him sitting in a similar chair watching his kids games or the annual PLL parade. On Saturday night at dinner Hannah said let's say a prayer for Mr. Taffe. I remember how Chris always made a place for Hannah when Adam and Brendan first started playing baseball. He would always hold her or play with her She always gravitated towards him. He was truly a prince among men. I never heard him say anything negative about anyone and in fact he always found the positive in every situation.
May God bless you all as you go through this very difficult time. Please know that we would like to help in any way we can.

Even though I never knew Chris, I have been hearing about what a wonderful person he was, how great he was and just what a nice guy he was. I'm so sorry for your loss. You will have a huge community here for you and your kids.

Liz, Brendan, Erin, and Alex, your husband and father was a tremendous public servant and prosecutor who helped make Western New York a better place. He was loved and appreciated by everyone in the Office. My deepest sympathy in this very difficult time.

Liz, Brendan, Erin, and Alex,
I am so sorry for your loss. Chris was a great friend of mine also and I will surely miss him immensely also. The thing that impressed me most with him and the main reason I liked him so much was that he marched to his own tune; he was not a follower of anyone. He was a true leader and lived by his own morals and ideals as he thought life should be lived. He truly loved life and enjoyed it with family and friends and always accepted people as they were. Of course he also had a great sense of humor that immediately would draw surrounding people towards him and always made them laugh. I know we will also miss his cooking on our campouts as well as his late night camaraderie around the fire before retiring for the night.
May he rest in eternity at the great campfire in the sky.

Liz, Brendan, Erin and Alex,
Do you know the story of the left-handed skyhook? It's a device, apparently, that can help hold up your tent to the trees (or so I was told by our Mr. Taffe, ace Scout leader).
Not knowing anything about camping but wanting to be helpful, when Sir Taffe told me he could really use one, I volunteered to trudge the quarter mile in thepouring rain to the office at scout camp to pick one up.
Of course, the men in the office got a good laugh since looking for a left-handed skyhook is akin to hunting snipes. Who knew?
Chris knew and we had a good, long laugh. That's what I'll remember. His sense of fun, his humor, his smarts and attitude.
When I asked Lucas to tell me what he remembers about Mr. Taffe he said "the pranks."
We'll surely miss him.
Love,
Stacey, Lucas, and Henry

Liz and family. My deepest sympathies for the loss of Chris. I always enjoyed his company, friendship and the jovial banter between the two of us. In my mind I can hear Chris say “Eh, everyone dies, it’s natural evolution and when it’s your time to go, you go. Don’t dilly-dally around and draw it out, just go; now give me back my Diet Coke or I’ll tell Liz.” Always the philosopher that spoke directly to the subject at hand with a personality and delivery that entertained yet intrigued you. Our prayers and support are here for you and the children whenever you need it.
