Not sure what to say?

The date we all lost Chris Taffe is still on my calendar as a recurring reminder, as is my father's passing earlier the same year. Today, as I was scheduling a medical appointment, I noted it's on the same day. Two of my colleagues and I still recall with fondness how Chris handled Social Security cases on appeal in court. Although he was a consummate professional, he had no fear of showing his human side. I pray his family is doing well despite his absence.

I remember Chris when I was only 4 years old along with his brother Terry and his sisters Patsy and Marybeth. I remember his mother even more. She was a beautiful woman inside and out and was wonderful to my mother and family. I am 62 now and I always had fond memories of Mrs Taffe and the family. Mrs Taffe would play the piano and taught me to sing. She saw a gift in me and I will never ever forget her and how nice everyone was. Mrs. Taffe would play while her children sat around...

Liz,Brendan,Erin and Alex,
We are all so very sorry and shocked about Chris. We were very sorry to have been unable to attend the funeral and celebration of his wonderful life. Perhaps fittingly, we were away at a vacation/camping trip with family. Adam talked about how Mr. Taffe taught him to start a fire. I sat there on my camping chair complete with footrest(I was inspired to buy such a chair because I first saw Chris with one)thinking of Chris and all the times I saw him sitting in a...

Liz,

Even though I never knew Chris, I have been hearing about what a wonderful person he was, how great he was and just what a nice guy he was. I'm so sorry for your loss. You will have a huge community here for you and your kids.

Liz, Brendan, Erin, and Alex, your husband and father was a tremendous public servant and prosecutor who helped make Western New York a better place. He was loved and appreciated by everyone in the Office. My deepest sympathy in this very difficult time.

Whittling by the fire

Liz, Brendan, Erin, and Alex,
I am so sorry for your loss. Chris was a great friend of mine also and I will surely miss him immensely also. The thing that impressed me most with him and the main reason I liked him so much was that he marched to his own tune; he was not a follower of anyone. He was a true leader and lived by his own morals and ideals as he thought life should be lived. He truly loved life and enjoyed it with family and friends and always accepted people as they were. Of...

Liz:

We just heard the news and were stunned.

Chris has helped you raise great kids, and there is no better testament to what a great guy he was.

Please know that we are here for all of you in any way possible.

Liz, Brendan, Alex and Erin:
Frank, Molly and all the Dehns simply want to let you know you are all in our prayers.

Chris Taffe, whittling away the hours

Liz, Brendan, Erin and Alex,
Do you know the story of the left-handed skyhook? It's a device, apparently, that can help hold up your tent to the trees (or so I was told by our Mr. Taffe, ace Scout leader).
Not knowing anything about camping but wanting to be helpful, when Sir Taffe told me he could really use one, I volunteered to trudge the quarter mile in thepouring rain to the office at scout camp to pick one up.
Of course, the men in the office got a good laugh since...
