Original version of this poem was written for my brother Danny in 1994
Rewritten and re-dedicated in 2016
YOU LIFT ME UP
You lift me up
From darkness and fear
Your letting me know
You will always be near
You lift me up
From here I can see
Sliding down rainbows
your heart full and free
You lift me up
To heights... Oh so high
Helping me forget
Why I ever did cry
You lift me up
So I can see more
My eyes through Your eyes
True Life's true treasure store

Dear Bears Family,
I only met Danny once and it was at the Mendon Fireman's Parade this past June. We are senior citizens from Pittsford and we love parades. We went to this one but were having difficulty carrying our chairs and walking to find a place to watch along the edge of the road.
Danny appeared out of the blue, took our chairs, helped us find a place to sit and collected us after the parade and drove us back to our car.
I was so touched by his consideration and kindness to people he didn't even know and I wanted to find out more about him, so I called my niece, Heidi Knickerbocker to find out who he was and I mentioned the episode to many of my friends.
I was saddened to learn of his death, but I will always remember his caring actions.

Dear Bears Family and Sister Deb:
I am incredibly saddened by your untimely loss. Meeting Danny many years ago when he and family came up to visit sister Deb at college, I recall that twinkle of spirit in his eye. He certainly lived his life with "that spirit" everyday. "God is closest to those whose heart is breaking". Know He is there for Danny and you, as you try to put one step in front of the other. God Bless you all.
Love,
Deb Miller Misenhimer

Marcye and family,
Words cannot express our feelings at this time. Rest assured that Dan's spirit and that of the entire Bears family lives on in the Village of Avon's playground which means he will continue to touch the lives of many children now and in the years to come.

Bears Family,
The kind of person Danny was has been expressed so beautifully in every word I've read about him over the past several days. It is clear he will be truly missed, but his memory will live forever in the hearts of many. I am honored to say I was a part of his family...

There are certain words that will forever and always remind me of Danny.
Passionate. Loving. Giving. Dedicated. Unstoppable. Creative. Enthusiastic. Charismatic. Positive. Devoted. Determined. Unforgettable. And a cherished friend, always.
May peace and comfort find you and yours - all of our love and very deepest sympathy.

So sorry for your loss! You and Danny put in our play set 15 years ago. I remember how kind he was to our then 2 year old, who was so excited to watch him build her set! Our kids are almost 17 and 15 and still love hanging out on it with friends. Danny touched so many lives and got kids outside playing!! You're in my thoughts and prayers. Nancy T

Bears Faimily,
There are no words to express our sorrow. It was amazing staying in touch with Dan all of these years and even seeing him several times. Knowing how truly happy he was should make our collective hurt that little bit less. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.
