Dorothy Cusker Obituary

Dorothy (Hickey) Cusker

Pittsford - Dorothy (Hickey) Cusker died peacefully on January 31, 2019. Dorothy is survived by Richard Cusker, her husband of 46 years; her son and daughter-in-law, Brendan and Ashley Cusker of Nashville, and her grandson James; her daughter and son-in-law, Mara Cusker Gonzalez and Coche Gonzalez of New York City, and her grandchildren Lola, Sebastian, and Paloma; her son and daughter-in-law, John Colin and Carrie Cusker of Newark, NY, and her grandchildren John and Thomas Cusker and Aja Naro; her brother John Hickey of Plano, TX, and his children Jill, John, and Shannon; and her brother-in-law Robert Bartlett of St. Andrews, Scotland, and his children Gabriel, Penelope, and Brian. Dorothy was predeceased by her sister Honora Bartlett in 2016.

Dorothy grew up in Irondequoit and attended St. Margaret Mary School and Bishop Kearney High School. She earned a bachelor's degree in philosophy from Saint Mary's College in Notre Dame and a master's in education from Nazareth College. Dorothy taught at the Holy Cross School in Dewitt, NY, and Our Mother of Sorrows School in Greece. In 1986, Dorothy earned a law degree from Notre Dame Law School. She went on to practice law in Rochester for 30 years, as an associate at Nixon, Hargrave, Devans & Doyle, a law clerk for U.S. District Court Judge the Honorable Michael A. Telesca, Corporate Counsel for the Eastman Kodak Company, and General Counsel for Kodak Alaris Inc. She also represented clients pro bono for the Volunteer Legal Services Project in Rochester. In 2014, Dorothy was admitted to practice in the U.S. Supreme Court.

Dorothy cherished her time with her husband, children, grandchildren, and three dogs, Rocco, Pippin, and Gracie, who were among the many animals she and Rick rescued and cared for over the years. She loved reading, music, attending Mass at St. Louis Church, dining out with family and friends, and a good glass of wine.

Dorothy's family deeply appreciates the professional care she received at the Wilmot Cancer Center and Strong Memorial Hospital during her illness.

In Dorothy's memory, contributions may be made to the Pittsford Food Cupboard or a charity of your choice.

She was extraordinary. I love you all and I am praying you all heal in " your way," and stay supporting the other. Your mother will be with you ALWAYS AND SHE ADORED ALL OF YOU! She was always speaking of the babies and your accomplishments. "Family first" is how I see her and her light will forever protect and guard you all. Rick I ache for you. I know she is with Jesus and free of pain. That helps in the healing process for sure. You all celebrate her gifts and wonderful energy. RIP aunt dorothy..an exquisite woman and even better mother.
