Edward Boucher Obituary

Edward (Ted) Allen Boucher

Rochester - June 29, 1955-May 14, 2021. Born in Rochester, NY to Allen and Joyce Boucher. He is predeceased by his father Allen. He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years Peggy Siebert Boucher, son Tim Boucher, daughter Nicky Bruger (Tom), mother Joyce Boucher, brother Jim Boucher (Maria), and nephew Mitchell Boucher.

Ted graduated from the Harley School in 1973. He then attended Dartmouth College where he further developed his love for hiking, winter camping, and outdoor adventures as an avid member of the Dartmouth Outing Club. Following Ted's graduation from Dartmouth with a degree in Geology, he continued his education at Columbia University earning a masters degree in Marine Geophysics.

After Columbia, Ted worked for several years with Gulf Oil as a Marine Geophysicist in Bakersfield, California. While in California, Ted honed his windsurfing skills and competed in many off-shore competitions. He also developed what became a life long passion for wine and collecting vintages.

A few years later Ted and Peggy chose to leave the West Coast and the oil industry. In order to change careers Ted went on to earn a MBA from The Tuck School at Dartmouth College. After Tuck, Ted worked for Data General in Operations Management. Seeing an opportunity to bring new technology to the family business, Ted and Peggy returned to Rochester where Ted joined Caldwell Manufacturing Company. Ted would spend the next three plus decades at Caldwell becoming CEO and ultimately Chairman of the Board until his death.

Ted truly enjoyed being active on the boards of community organizations such as The Harley School, Rochester's Child, Rochester Area Community Foundation, Geva Theatre Center, the Memorial Art Gallery, and most recently as a member of the United Way's Community Impact Cabinet. His passion to help and strengthen the Rochester community is evident in his board engagement and philanthropy.

Ted adored spending time with his family. He particularly cherished being at the cottage in Canada with his family and friends. He was often seen kayaking the lake, teaching the family to wakeboard, getting up early to fish, and puttering around fixing anything and everything. He was never too old to join in a water gun fight, play capture the flag with the kids, or dress up for a costume party with neighbors. We will miss his dad jokes, lessons on geological formations, knowledge of wine, handiness, wise counsel, and love.

Calling hours will be held at the Country Club of Rochester on Tuesday, May 25th from 3pm to 6pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ted's memory may be made to: The United Way of Rochester, 75 College Avenue, Rochester, NY 14607; Geva Theatre Center, 75 Woodbury Boulevard, Rochester, NY 14607; or The Michael J. Fox Parkinson's Foundation at www.michaeljfox.org.

So very sorry for your great loss. I had not seen much of Ted since college days at Dartmouth, where we studied geology and enjoyed so many Central American adventures together with the iconic "Stretch" program. My thoughts are with you as you grieve - may the day come soon when you can remember Ted with more smiles than tears.

We only just got to know Ted and Peggy but we most certainly enjoyed the times we met. He was bright , energetic and was making the most of his beautiful piece of Paradise in TCI... We were so sorry to hear the incredibly heart breaking news of Ted’s demise, so very tragic.... our loving thoughts and deepest sympathy go out to Peggy and family... He will be remembered as a man who lived life to the fullest and touched those who he met...
our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

I am very sorry for your loss. Although I have not seen much of Ted in the last 40 years, I have very fond memories of him from our days at Dartmouth together. Not only were we roommates for a spell, but we had quite a few adventures together as well, especially with the Outing Club and the geology dept. We went on the geology "Stretch" together, where we had a bit too much fun in Mexico and at Lake Powell in Utah. We also worked together once in Costa Rica. Perhaps the most memorable trip was when Ted invited a few us to go sailing with him on the family yacht in the Bahamas. I know Ted was proud of his family and the family business, and it sounds like he served both well. Ted, you will be missed.
