Edward T. Meagher, Sr.

Pittsford - Passed away on November 7, 2020. Ed was born in January 1929 in Rochester. He was a graduate of Aquinas and then Georgetown University. He served as a messenger in the Korean War hopping trains and travelling all over Korea from Pusan to the front lines. After his discharge, he worked for the DJ Meagher Construction Company building St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester. He then went on to become the owner/operator of The Valley Cadillac Corporation.

Ed was not a large man in stature but so much else about him was Big. He had a big "hello", a booming laugh, a huge personality, a sneeze that could shake a room, size 13 feet, and a smile that went from coast to coast. He wanted to know everyone by name and made sure they knew his. He loved the auto business and was well respected by his peers and his employees. He always said that his employees were the most important people at the dealership. Without great employees doing a great job for his customers, he had nothing. He won Cadillac's highest honor, Master Dealer, 10 times. He served on the Cadillac National Dealer Council and the United Way.

Ed enjoyed reading, golf, tennis, skiing and travel. He especially loved traveling to big cities in the U.S. and many abroad, such as Paris, London, Marseille, Monaco, Waterbury, Munich, Rome, Venice, Amsterdam, St. Petersburg and Hong Kong. He would spend hours walking around meeting people and trying to speak their language. He said the French were great because he always tried to speak French even though he was terrible.

He is predeceased by his loving wife of 58 years, Lillian Spalty Meagher. He is survived by his four children, Edward Meagher, Jr (Patricia), Kimberly Salisbury (Bert), Gig Lee (Tony) and J. Daniel Meagher (Karen) as well as 6 granddaughters and 2 grandsons.
