Eileen Wilmot Obituary

Eileen Rodas Wilmot

Pittsford - Passed from this life the morning of November 29, 2017. Predeceased by her husband, Gerald, Eileen was 91. Eileen was also predeceased by her parents, Elmer and Ethel Rodas; sisters, Esther and Eloise; and brother, Eugene. Eileen is survived by her children, Nancy (Paul) Gorman, Gerald (Maureen), Mary Ellen (Richard) Kladstrup and Anne Kathleen Wilmot. Surviving grandchildren are Thomas Gorman, Dr. Gerald (Leanne) Gorman, Anne Elizabeth Wilmot, Brian (Alex) Wilmot and Katherine Kladstrup. Surviving great-granchildren are Emily, Jack and Avery Gorman. Eileen is also survived by Evelyn Hoskins; Jennifer, Jeffrey, Clara and Meredith Valentine; Elizabeth, Jerry and Allison Temple; Meghan Pacetti; Rich, Rita, Carter and Dylan Kladstrup.

A lifelong resident of the greater Rochester area, Eileen was active in the community. Born in Hamlin, she attended local schools and graduated from Brockport High School. Eileen was gifted in many ways; and her ease in conversation, her grace and poise were evident at an early age. As a teen, Eileen served as the very first Monroe County Harvest Queen. At WWII's end, she married Gerald G. Wilmot and together they enjoyed a 59 year marriage, raised a family, and actively participated in the community.

Eileen had a special fondness for Nazareth College of Rochester. She and her husband were principal benefactors of the Gerald G. Wilmot Hall of Music and its supporting scholarship fund. Eileen engaged many of the Sisters of St. Joseph in long term friendships to the benefit of both. For many years, Eileen participated in fund raising for the Guild for Special Children. Among her memberships were the Genesee Valley Club, Oak Hill Country Club, the Century Club and the Saint Louis Parish of Pittsford.

Eileen had a gift for friendship. She had a delightful sense of humor and an engaging laugh that inspired others to join in the fun. In later years, facing the twin challenges of cancer and failing vision, Eileen nevertheless welcomed one and all with the same warmth and generous spirit that marked all her days.

The family wishes to express gratitude for the loving care provided Eileen by Cara, Dianne, Marie, Miriam, Becky, Tina, Amy, Margaret, Taylor and Keisha.

Family and friends are invited to attend Eileen's Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated Tuesday, December 5, 11 AM at St. Louis Church, 64 South Main St., Pittsford. Interment at White Haven Memorial Park.

In Eileen's memory, those wishing may contribute to the Wilmot Cancer Institute, 601 Elmwood Ave., Box 704, Rochester 14642 or the Gerald G. Her brown eyes reflected the warmth of her personality. She was beautiful. She was kind. She enjoyed laughing. She was a good sport.

Dear Wilmot Family,

I was so saddened to hear the news about Eileen. She was very dear to my Mom and Dad, and to me as well. I'll always remember how much fun we all had when Mom and Dad (Joanne & Pete and I) would visit, reminiscing about aviation, share stories of travel, and spending time hanger flying.
I know you'll miss her terribly, but she was a very lucky woman to live such a long life and have you all to love and support her.
I will be in Rochester on Dec 19th, and if any of you are up for it, I would welcome the chance to visit with you for dinner or even a cup of coffee or tea. My cell is 336.266.9028.
Thinking of you
Love,
Knansie Beth Griffing

An old cliché, to be sure, but my Aunt Eileen truly was as beautiful inside as she was outside. It's no wonder that there was never an empty chair next to her at the many functions and parties which she attended throughout her life. And all of the hosts and hostesses were indeed flattered to have the privilege of her company. She'll be missed by so many.

Eileen, I will miss your bravery through all your hardships, but most of all your sense of humor, that kept us both laughing. May you laugh with joy in heaven.

Dear Anne -
I have such fond memories of the sleepovers and swimming afternoons at your house when we were kids. Your mother always made me feel very welcome to be at your house. My sympathies to you and your family. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
