Ferguson Cook Obituary

Cook, Ferguson R.
Aberdeen, WA: 80, died Friday, June 22, 2007 at his home surrounded by his daughters and wife. He was born April 8, 1927 to John and Katherine Cook in Syracuse, NY. The family moved to Rochester, NY when he was a child and he lived in Rochester all his life until this past September when he and his wife moved to Aberdeen, WA to be closer to family.
He attended Monroe High School and left school to enlist in the Navy and serve in World War II. After his service, he attended Syracuse University and graduated in 1951. He worked with his father in their own design business for many years before opening up his own commercial design business, FC Design. In 2002, he was the recipient of Architecture Design's Order of Excellence Award for his work on the Maplewood Nursing Home.
He married the love of his life, Johonna, on February 12, 1972. Together they had three daughters. His passions were fly fishing, drawing, woodburning, relaxing with family and friends at his camp at Fish Creek, and planning family travels to the Adirondacks, Bahamas, Florida, and Mexico. Ferg especially enjoyed helping his daughters make their houses a home, and the celebration of "Happy Hour" each evening at 5pm. He is survived by his wife Johonna of Aberdeen, WA; his daughter and son-in-laws Kristin and Alex Gadbois of Bow, NH; Korri and John Miller of Aberdeen, WA; and daughter Kamerin Cook of Fort Lauderdale, FL. He also had 4 grandchildren.
Ferg enjoyed a long, healthy, and active life and was blessed with the brevity of his illness. During his short battle with Leukemia, he remained very brave. In peaceful reflection Ferg shared with his wife "I thank God for the blessings that I have, and do not covet the ones that I cannot have". His only regret was that he did not have the time to tell all those who have touched his life, once again, how much they meant to him.
A funeral service will be held at St. Andrew's Church in Aberdeen, WA on Friday, June 29, 2007 at 10:00am. Memorials can be made to the Myelodysplastic Syndrome Foundation at www.aamds.org. A card of condolence can be sent to the family at www.whitesidefamilymortuaries.com

Dearest Cook family...
Words seem so inadequate when I think of the extent of your loss. Erik and our family did not live close to your lovely family, but the memories of your husband/father and family are vivid ones. I remember what fun he was and how kind he was to his mother-in-law. Your home was such a warm, inviting place. Please accept my deepest sympathy and love.

I remember Ferg's many visits to the Maplewood Nursing Home. Each time he came I knew we were in for another new projectt of either Jims or Gregs. Which of course always ment saws, dust, & more work for the business office. However, he always came with a big hello & smile. He also came with a great finished project for the MNH. This note is from Bea in the business office at Maplewood.
PS: I have retired after 27 years of projects.

Some of my fondest memories are of Ferg Cook and his mother Katherine and father Jack. In the 1930s, I would baby-sit Ferg at the Cook home on Greenview Terrace off Highland Parkway. What a marvelous person Ferg grew into! His family had many great years with a wonderful husband and father.Requiescat in pace.
