Gerald Clifford Obituary

Gerald Clifford

Pittsford - May 24, 2018 peacefully in his sleep. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Jane; sons, Peter, William (Kate), Daniel (Mary); grandsons, Colin, Brady, John; brothers, Tom (Sharon) and Bob; several nieces and nephews.

While Gerry was never an academic, he attended numerous schools from Brighton to Pittsford and all the way to Long Island. His scholastic journey earned him lifelong friends. There was never a day that went by he didn't do something nice for someone other than himself, and he always had a twinkle in his eye. His acts of kindness combined with his unparalleled sense of humor made him the special person everyone embraced and loved. Gerry was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to all that knew him.

He was proud to be a small business owner in the Rochester community for over 45 years.

Friends may call Tuesday, May 29th, 1-4 PM and 7-9 PM at the funeral chapel (2305 Monroe Ave.). A Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, 11 AM at St. Louis Church, 60 S. Main St., Pittsford. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wilmot Cancer Institute, 300 East River Road P.O. Box 278996, Rochester, NY 14627. I wanted to ask if he was the son of Robert and Regina Clifford. I knew his brother Bobby Clifford and spent summer days in the 1960's at their house in Pittsford that had a pool in the backyard and a glass wall in the front of the house that was made like a brick wall. I came across this when I was trying to find out what happened to the Maplewood restaurant. I am the niece of Emmy Lou Reiss who was a good friend of the family. My sister Peggie and I spent many summer days swimming with Bobby Clifford in the backyard pool of their house. I would like to know when Regina passed away. She was always very kind to both of us and if there was any way to contact Bobby who was a couple of years younger than I was.

My thoughts and prayers to the family. Gerry gave me my first job. In 1973 I was taking a business course at West Irondequoit HS. One of the requirements was I had to get a job after school. I went to the Hour of Bacchus and applied. And Gerry gave me the job. One problem I was 17. You had to be 18 to work there. Gerry looked me and said don't worry about it. I worked there all through college and then some. He was great and very entertaining guy. I have fond memories working with him, Jimmy Yeager and Bill the wine guy.
Years later I was in Thirsty's and Not knowing he was there I turned and there he was with a beer for me. Great guy I will miss him.

Who didn't like Gerry Clifford? Easy to answer, nobody. A true gentleman with a big heart and pure sincerity. I appreciate what I learned from him during my initial years in sales and later in retail, he was a pro, one of the best. I will never forget his smile and humor. Deepest condolences to family and friends.

My deepest sympathy to Jane and the Family.

I will miss you, my friend of almost 60 years. May you rest in peace. You sure have earned it.

I remember our trips to the restaurants your Father, Bob and my Father, Phil separately owned. We would constantly raid the freezers for ice cream.
