I knew Jim from working with him at BCBS. He was a great guy, always happy, a very enjoyable person to talk to. I seen him after retirement in Cape Vincent at his restaurant. It was great to meet up again. We also have a place near Alex Bay so know why he loved the area. I will miss seeing him there, but know he is in good hands. My heart goes out to his family. He will be truly missed.

"I knew Jim from Benjamin Franklin High School and from the Emmanuel Methodist which was his father's church on Joseph Avenue. We sang together in a folksinging trio in Rochester., Peter Franchuk was the third member of our group. Jim was a very wonderful person and I shall miss him. My heartfelt sorrow goes out to his sister Karla, his family and many friends. (Gene Dannan)

Jim, his guitar and his singing were synonymous with each other. I remember the time he sang a song for me as an added bonus when I went to collect his share of the road upkeep. He lived the true life he preferred --that of being one with nature, content with the basics. In later years, he could be seen around the area mowing lawns. He was one of a kind and his presence will be missed by the Barracks Club residents and those in the Cape Vincent area.

Thank you all for the kind words about my brother "Robin," as he was known in our family from the time he was a baby. Your words mean so much to me as I try to grasp the reality of his death. He WAS a loyal friend and, goodness knows, he did love to sing.

I was fortunate to be with Patti in her home when her beloved friend and my brother died -- so peacefully.

And please don't fret about missing the burial -- there wasn't one. He was cremated as he wished.

And now he is one with the Universe for which I am grateful.

With affection for you all,

Karla Linn Merrifield

I was Jim's cube mate for many years at Excellus BCBS. He was a good listener and a very entertaining person. His greatest love was the 1000 Island area, where he retired. He was hospitable and invited me and a couple friends to visit him in Cape Vincent. He had a generous spirit and helped out people less fortunate than himself. I have a little lighthouse he bought as a souvenir for me and also the CD he made of himself singing and playing the guitar. Thank you Patti for taking care of Jim.

Jim was a very kind and loyal friend. He didn't need much to make him happy, just a guitar and a few friends to share his music with. I have many fond memories of working with him at BCBS.. I will miss his smile.
