Gastonia, NC: Janice Margaret Upchurch Deci, 97, formerly of Palmyra, NY, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 1, 2015. Born in Loveland, Iowa, she was the daughter of the late Edward Franklin Upchurch and Garnet Haldeman Upchurch.

Mrs. Deci was a retired secretary, member of the Opti-Mrs club, and a longstanding communicant of St. Mark's Episcopal Church where she was active in numerous capacities. Prior to moving to Gastonia in 1966, Mrs. Deci lived in Palmyra, NY. She was a communicant of Zion Episcopal Church where she served on the Altar Guild and was active in the Order of the Eastern Star.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Deci was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles Henry Deci; brothers, Fredrick M. Upchurch and Herbert F. Upchurch; sisters, Florence Upchurch and Nelle Geissler.

Mrs. Deci is survived by her children, Charles Henry Deci, Jr. and wife, Setsuko Deci of Houston, TX, Edward Lewis Deci of Rochester, NY, and Shirley Jensen of Gastonia; grandchildren and spouse, Brett Jensen, David Jensen, Fred Deci, and Lewis and Taranne Deci; great-grandchildren, Victoria Deci and Alexandria Deci; brother, Valere "Bill" Upchurch of Walden, NY.

Family and friends of Mrs. Deci are invited to attend her memorial service beginning at 1:00 PM Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at St. Mark's Episcopal Church. The Rev. Shawn Griffith will officiate. The family will receive friends from 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM Tuesday at McLean Funeral Directors of Gastonia and immediately following the memorial service in the parish hall.
