John Honeck Obituary
Hamlin: John passed away suddenly on 10/20/15 at age 55. Through his work at Lifetime Assistance John dedicated his life to helping individuals with developmental disabilities live with dignity and independence. The betterment of humankind was not only his career, but his passion. John was a devout Catholic and activist who believed it was his duty to fight for social justice on a global scale, working closely with both Pax Christi and ROCLA on causes both close to home and in Latin America.
John was an avid tennis player and could often be seen at the Brockport high school courts working on his backhand. John was a sports fan, rooting for the Sabres, Bills and The Boston Red Sox.
John is pre-deceased by his mother Constance and is survived by his wife Brenda and children Megan, Kate and Liam, his father Richard Honeck, brother Thomas, aunt Margaret Barr as well as the family's cat, Dot. He also leaves a large extended family.
Calling hours will be held at Fowler Funeral Home Inc. 340 West Avenue, Brockport on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. His funeral mass will be on Monday at 11 in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church (SEAS) in Hamlin, where John was an active member.
John will be missed by all that knew him.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Lifetime Assistance or The American Diabetes Association.

Somehow I missed that we had lost John. Am very sad to hear. His enthusiasm & demand for justice from such a loving, peaceful conviction in his heart fortified all the efforts he was part of. Am glad to have known him.

I am shocked and saddened to just learn of John's passing. I worked directly with John at Lifetime Assistance on Sweden Walker Rd. in Brockport. Through our conversations, my life was so positively impacted because of his compassion for mankind.

Simply a beautiful soul who is and forever will be in so many hearts. He touched the world and made it better for all. We didn't know John personally but were always struck by his presence and devotion at Mass. He had an aura of Jesus around him.

John was one of a kind. He was a light every time he entered a room. We will miss him bounding into the chapel for daily Mass at the last minute with a big smile on his face. John will be remembered for his willingness to live life on the edge for his principles and for other people. He was a great example to all of us who went through school with him (like me) even though we may not have always chosen to follow such an example....especially during our school years. The first time I met John was in the 1980s at his parent's home with him playing Billy Joel on the piano. Since then he was always a good friend to my brother and I, and I am glad my daughters had the chance to meet Brenda and John often at SEAS.
