For the past 18 years, John had been a great friend. We had many great times together! And during his difficult times, he always said Chin up! That will be a phrase I'll remember forever!
John had an indomitable spirit that reached everyone he met. I will carry his spirit in my heart forever
Miss you so much and will miss you forever!

To All Who Loved John:
Thank you all for remembering John and the good times you've shared with him. Your thoughts and kindness are comforting to read and remind me of what a wonderful person he was. I know my son's spirit is soaring and is at peace.

Spent a good deal of time talking with John that first summer he arrived at Auburn. Such a talented and nice guy. I know he was so frustrated with the injuries that stopped his running career in its tracks. Lost track of him after he left. So sorry to hear of his passing. God bless you John.

My heart aches for all the loves ones who misses him. He often picked up the picture frame on his night stand with his mom (Cecile) holding him and would kiss it. He loved his mom very much. Every time I rubbed his head and back he would say "This is like heaven! It brings back memories when I was little and mom often rubbed my head and back." He wasn't ashamed to admit that he was a mama's boy. The most loving man I've known.

I never had the pleasure to meet John but was well aware of his legendary status as an athlete at Pittsford Mendon by my son Nathan, who has spent four years on the Mendon XC and Track and Field teams chasing his school distance records. Nathan and John did cross paths a few times at the YMCA and I remember how awestruck Nathan was to meet the legendary John Horkheimer. Our deepest condolences to his family and friends during this difficult time.

Johnathan was a very special person in my life. We shared the same love for our Lord. He always said I came into his life for a reason. He called me his angel and I will never forget him! We had so many funny, silly, loving times together. I can't believe I will never see him or hear his voice again. This world has lost an amazing human being. I know he's resting peacefully in Jesus's arms. I love you Johnathan with all my heart and until we meet again.....

I went to OCC with John for the PTA program. He was a great guy with a big heart. He was always smiling, joking & trying to make others do the same. A shame that it's always the good that are taken too soon. My condolences for your loss. I'm truly sorry.

it's by far been one of the hardest weeks of my life, mourning your loss. You without a doubt were another big brother to me! From that first time we met in 1989, I was only eleven years old, and you were my brothers cross country teammate. I remember it was such a big deal to have such an amazingly talented and gifted athlete in our house . The famous " pasta primavera " dinner my mom made that we still spoke of to this day! I will never forget knowing how positive of an influence you were coming to my soccer games and even throwing a baseball with my in my back yard throughout my youth! You always treated me like the little brother you always wanted !Knowing you were going to Auburn for a scholarship was the coolest thing to me I ever knew. You were always the reason why I wanted to continue to follow my dreams a get a scholarship to play soccer in college! I used to tell my parents when I grow up I want to be like John a do what I love in college! The years went by and although you career was cut short, you still inspired me! I remember there were the days you would see me at the soccer field in Mendon practicing on my own and cheer me on! You would push me on the track to get in top shape! I will never forget the the best friend who took me to get my ear pieced on the day before Christmas to only get screamed at by dad while you over for that dinner ! The laughs we shared will never ever be forgotten. My spring break, trip down to Raleigh to visit you and the trip you took with me to visit Elon College! John it's been so amazing to have you in my life as friend and brother to me! I watched you go through many trials and conflicts personally, but i never gave up on you and was always amazed to watch you bounce back! I'm so inspired by your faith in God and it gives me peace knowing you are now with him! If I never thanked you before than I sure will now! I'm so glad and honored that you met my daughters ! You will be someone who I will Always speak highly of because of the great attributes you possessed! Your wit, humor and zest for life ! Your singing talent and appreciation for the fun times in life . My heart is so heavy for you my friend! This day on our birthday that we shared together! We always said the 28th and 29th were the 2 best days of the year for these two Gemini ! "Off guard" chi chi dinner on my 16th bday! One of the best laughs we both ever had! Until we see each other again you will always have a place in my heart ...rest easy my friend, we will still get to race together on the track !!!
God bless you
Andy

What can I say about my childhood friend Horky? I hadn't seen him in years but have thought about him often, as you do with people like John. I was so sad to hear that he had passed. We shared so many laughs and great times as kids in Pittsford. He was one of the kindest, funniest people I have ever had the good fortune to know. I'm sure my memories of him from childhood have a familiar feel to all who knew him; a funny, bright, creative bundle of energy with a passion for running, loving life, and making people laugh. I miss him. Love to his family and friends.

John was one of a kind and special to so many. He reached out to me a few months ago due to his concerns and fears and I pointed him to the One who offers direction and counsel Jesus Christ. We shared many memories at OSTM and after. He reached so many with his God given gifts. I pray for the entire family that you will also draw closer to the Comforter in this time of loss. May God help you through this time. With love

John Horkheimer was an incredible person. He tought everyone to smile in times of challenge, and love in times of need. He was a a best friend to everyone he met for the first time. Everytime I hear someone whistling loudly in public, lending a hand to a stranger, flexing muscles, posing a golf swing, rooting for the Steeler Nation, or finding true enlightenment in the simple, important things in life, I will think of Johnathan. Thank you for being all that you were, Johnathan.- Scott Hagadorn

Sadly, I just found John Horkheimer's obituary. I'll never forget his smile and his ability to charm people. Every time I met will my classmates from McQuaid, legendary McQuaid cross country coach, Mr. Bradley would always ask about John, who had been a two time winner of the McQuaid invitational. Mr. Bradley would recall how great a runner and competitor that John had been. When John competed against McQuaid, John was so good that McQuaid was hoping to finish second behind him. I will always have fond memories of John and will keep him and his family in my prayers.
