1948 - JUNE 20, 2020 Our dearest daddy, husband, son, grandpa, brother, uncle, and Veteran, - Born January 16, 1948 Joseph "Joe" Anthony DiMaria passed away peacefully on June 20, 2020 in his home city of Rochester, NY. Joe passed away peacefully after a quick and admirable fight with infection complicated by pre- existing chronic illness. Our humble dearest, fought this battle- both stoically and gentlemanly, as he was. He is predeceased by beloved parents Philip Sr. & Rose (Rosina Dimmino) DiMaria and Dr. Paul & Mary Powell. Joe's light continues to shine through the love of his life, retired RCSD art teacher and independent artist wife, Andrea "Andy" (Powell) of 47 years, daughters, NYS Accountant Regan Kelly (Doulas Jr.) of Perry, New York, Lauren Butler (Gregory), who studied psychology extensively before practicing as a registered nurse. His most treasured role as "Grandpa Joe" or "Big Joe" began with Andrew "Andy" in 2005. Born in Delaware, Andy is now a bit taller. a bit quicker, but the same great athlete as his grandpa. Joe's namesake and next grandchild, Joseph "JR" Robert Butler, came in the form of a blonde bundle of NYC intensity and intelligence. He has a keen sense for numbers and makes everyone feel welcome and special. Soon we welcomed another sweet and stoic athlete. Matthew Joel Kelly. has a very strong physical familiarity to his Sicilian Ancestors and his gentle soft spoken manner was most certainly a gift from Joe. Not to be overshadowed by her male cousins - next came our witty, profound beauty and mess of curls, Sienna Lauren Butler, whose wit and sarcasm could only be described as Karma. As it would go, the 3 boys- in-a-row pattern would soon be broken by our fierce Meredith Jayne Kelly, who reminded us that big blue eyes will get you far - even with two older brothers. Foremost, Joe loved his family. He leaves behind proud and loving entrepreneur brothers, Philip (Mine) and business owner, Michael Sr. (Maureen McCabe), two beautiful nieces Grace, Deputy Mary (Sargent Gary Wegman) and stoic nephew Michael DiMaria, Jr. There is just one great-nephew G2. For now. Additionally, he leaves Brother- and sister-in-law John and Linda Powell, both recent retirees and long-term employees of Strong Memorial Hospital. Joe leaves many aunts, uncles, and cousins, who were always important to him. Joe graduated from East High School in 1966 and shortly thereafter he was drafted by the US ARMY to Vietnam as a combat soldier. Honorably discharged, he returned to the US and went on to meet his love, Andrea. He continued to SUNY Brockport, where he studied business and education. Quickly discovering that teaching was not for him, he began to work with investors and entrepreneurs to grow and manage their wealth. As his family grew and time and life afforded, Joe became a distinguished graduate of Harvard's Business School. With his wife's support, Joe began a financial investment firm, Upstate Advisors, Inc., which he successfully ran for over 20 years with trusted and loyal family and friends. Generous clients became close friends and will be dearly missed. Joe was grateful for their support and worked relentlessly to keep them thriving. Joe is also a talented artist, which he would surely deny. He was a wood and leather worker, novice gardener, occasional painter and prolific reader. He loved a good existential debate, walking, cooking and quick drop-ins. A homebody at heart, Joe would appease "his girls" for vacations and shopping. He could often be found pacing outside of a store or mall holding their bags. Joe's easy going nature, humble grace and charisma made for many friends. He kept several friends and fellow soldiers close to his heart including Robert "Bob" Branca, Michael "Mike"" Aceto, Glenn Vandenberg & Bill Interlichia. Joe's family would like to thank Dr. Dmirty Chuprun, Meagan Stuver & MacKenzie Ryan, Physician's Assistants at the Sands Constellation Heart Center for their detailed and compassionate care of Joe. Joe has always been a kind gentleman and that is exactly how he left us. At his final goodbye, he held open and shut the door for "his girls" still in his wheelchair amidst his pain. Looking quite "sharp" as his love would always say. As times are difficult during this pandemic coupled with an ever changing economy affecting us all; We ask that if you so chose, pay it forward and perform an act of kindness in the spirit of Joe's generosity and kindness. He will be missed by all. -Andrea, Regan & Lauren
