Martin Estruch Obituary

Martin R. Estruch

Mount Morris - April 25, 2019. Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great-Grandfather, passed away peacefully at home. Martin was born on October 1, 1928 in Cuylerville, NY. He is survived by his wife of almost 70 years, Rita, the love of his life, and his seven children: Kathryn (John) Coniglio, Cynthia (Gar) Lowenguth, Martin (Sue Dantini) Estruch, Patricia Wills, Pamela (Joseph) Torregiano, Susanne Whitham, Elizabeth Estruch and his nine grandchildren, David, Patrick, Jennifer and Brian Wills, Kathryn (William) Coniglio-Skaggs, Joseph, James and Anna Torregiano, and Samantha Whitham and one great-grandchild, Henry William Skaggs. He is also survived by nine siblings: Mary Passamonte, Theresa Gambino, Frances Bianchi, Ricardo Estruch, Jr., Angelina Jacobs, Antoinette Pendergast, Sylvia (Howard) Hanna, Anthony (Shirley) Estruch, Julie Arena and many nieces and nephews. Martin was predeceased by his parents, Ricardo and Angelina Estruch, and his brother, James.

A devoted and loving patriarch, Martin will be remembered as a hard-working family man. He was employed by the Army Corp of Engineers at the Mt. Morris Dam where he retired in 1983 after more than 32 years of service. Martin took great pride in being the proprietor of the Genesee River Hotel and Restaurant. For three generations and over 55 years, it has remained in his family. The "River Hotel" was and continues to be a popular local place for families, friends and the community to gather.

There was nothing Martin enjoyed more than spending summers at Eagle Point on Conesus Lake. For over 40 years he and Rita created many cherished memories at their cottage with their family and many lifelong friends.

For over 30 years, during the winter months, Martin and Rita vacationed in Florida. Together they enjoyed traveling with and visiting their children. He also enjoyed going on trips to see professional baseball games, golfing, boating, watching sporting events and the History Channel.

Martin will be laid to rest in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Mt. Morris, NY at a private family gathering at a later date. You are invited to attend a Memorial Mass that will be said in his honor at 11:00 AM on Friday, May 3, 2019 at St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church, 46 Stanley St., Mt. Morris, NY. Following the Mass, family and friends are invited to celebrate his life at the Genesee River Restaurant and Reception Center. In lieu of flowers, donations in his honor can be sent to Livingston County Hospice, 2 Murray Hill Dr., Mt. Morris, NY 14510 and the Mt. Morris Ambulance, 117 N. Main St., Mt. Morris, NY 14510. Rita and family,
We are sorry to hear of Marty's passing. He was such a dear friend of mine growing up in Cuylerville. I lived in Buffalo and spent summers at my grandparent's (Montemarano) farm. We did so much together which have become fond memories of mine. My wife, Mary, and I spent time at your hotel on Lakeville Rd., Geneseo and he rolled out the carpet for me and my family. You both kept the arrival of our son, also of California a secret. We had a wonderful time because of the hospitality you both showed us. Great friends are hard to find. We shall always remember Marty. We know you will miss him very much. Our sympathy to all your family.
Love, Mary and Dominic Montemarano

Dear Estruch Family - Sending you our sympathy on learning the loss of your father. While we didn't know him well, we certainly recognize the type of father he must have been merely by knowing members of the family he raised. It's never easy to say goodbye to a loved one, but you have so many fond memories to remember him by. May you find peace in these difficult days.

Marty was a great example of work ethics, honesty, and assertiveness. He always stopped for a conversation on his way in and out of Eagle point and this will surely be missed. it was a pleasure to have had his acquaintance and i am sure he is headed in the right direction in his afterlife.
