Larene Done Obituary

Larene Butler Done "A Joyous Reunion"  Larene Butler Done, 89, daughter of Eliza May Clayson and Rufus Edgar Butler, died on the 1st of June, 2004 in Salt Lake City, after a brief illness incident to her age. There has been "a joyous reunion" with her husband Willard "Ed" Done who preceded her in death on December 27, 1992. Larene was born in Cornish, Cache County, Utah on the 4th of December, 1914. She attended various schools in Cache Valley until she graduated from North Cache High School in 1932. A couple of years later she enrolled at BYU and studied there while working. Later she worked as an executive secretary at the Utah State Capitol and also at the HQ 3rd Military Area in Salt Lake. Larene and Ed met in Salt Lake, courted, and were married in the Salt Lake Temple on November17, 1941 and soon began raising their family of five children. Her family, both immediate and extended, was always her highest priority. This also accounted for her love of genealogy, which she pursued with passion. She loved music and was an accomplished instrumentalist, pianist, organist, conductor, vocalist, and composer. She shared her musical talents freely throughout her life, in church and community organizations. Larene was always actively involved in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and fulfilled her responsibilities with distinction in Ward, Stake, and Regional callings. She enjoyed her opportunities for service in leadership positions with the MIA and Relief Society. She was also active in the Utah and American Iris Societies, winning numerous awards each spring, for over 40 years. She was an accomplished judge for iris shows and taught others how to judge shows. In the Iris Society she held many leadership positions both at the state and national level. She also loved her association with good friends in the Daughters of Utah Pioneers (DUP) organization for many years. Larene is survived by her children: Andrea (Preston) Shockley, Ken (Tania) Done, Alan (Kathleen) Done, Bryce (Rita) Done, and Michele Done. She is also survived by her sister Marjorie McCann and brother Myron (Carolyn) Butler. 13 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren will miss her loving presence.  Funeral services will be Saturday, June 5, 2004 at 2 p.m. in the Hawthorne Ward, 808 Roosevelt Ave (1450 S.). Friends may call Friday evening at Larkin Sunset Lawn, 2350 E. 1300 South from 6-8 p.m. and at the church on Saturday one hour before the funeral begins. Interment, Larkin Sunset Lawn Cemetery.

I am so sorry to hear about the death of your mom. Larene was always such a special lady to me. I grew up just 4 houses down from the Done’s it was always fun to knock on her door. She was so friendly and always had a smile on her face. Even after I got married and would visit the ward, Larene would always come up and talk to me and ask me how things were going. She was a very special and talented lady. I am sure she is going to be missed by all. Your family is in our prayers.

I am a grandaughter of Ella Butler Bingham. Larene was so wonderful to me in all the questions I had about family and flowers. My love to the family.

I wanted to add my feelings about my Aunt Larene. I am the youngest daughter of Melvin and Lillian Done. I always remember Aunt Larene having time to visit with me whenever I came to see her. I can remember my trips to Salt Lake since I was a young child. Aunt Larene was there for me about 7 years ago when my daughter was sick and in the hospital there and she let us stay at her house and made us very comfortable. I will miss her, I know that she is happy with Uncle Ed and yes, what a joyous reunion!
