Mary Tydings Obituary

Tydings, Mary Elizabeth (Caufield)
Rochester: October 25, 2007. Amidst the prayerful songs of her daughters, God's holy Angels led Mary into the wide waiting arms of the Lord on Thursday evening where she rejoined her late husband of 59 years, Edward T. Tydings and their infant son Gregory. Also there to greet her were her parents John and Helen (Ryan) Caufield; her sister Patricia Quigley and her brothers Danny Caufield, Eddie Caufield and Tom Caufield. Mary is survived by her three sisters, Sr. Margaret Caufield, RSM, Sr. Ann Caufield, RSM, and Sr. Janet Caufield, RSM.; her brother Jack (Marguerite) Caufield; her sisters-in-law, Mary Ellen Tuite and Thirza Caufield; her brothers-in-law, John Tydings and Jim Quigley; and a multitude of nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
And then there are her children and their spouses. We all loved her dearly, but she always seemed to love us even more: Edward A. (Joan), Mary Ann (Matt) Heinrich, David E. (Dianne), Gregory J. (died 1952), Patrick E. (Sandy), Jean M. Tydings (David Simmons), Thomas J. (Barb), Margaret E. (David) Henning, Robert J. (Jani) and Ruth E. (Jeffrey) Bailey.
Mary would never ever forget any of her grandchildren or great grandchildren whom she cherished: Edward F. (Carmen and great-grandson Edward), Jeffrey D. (Lisa and great-grandchildren Taylor, McKenna and Nolan), Michael S., and Daniel K. Tydings (Jessica); Mary Lou Heinrich, David Heinrich, Gregory E, Tydings; Timothy P. and Amanda J. Tydings; Elizabeth R. Simmons; Carly A., Kimberly E. and Shannon M. Tydings; Todd D. (Jocelyn), Catherine M. and Kyle E. Henning, Chad W. Tydings (Sarah), and Samantha C. and Erin E. Bailey.
Mary was the eldest of the Caufield clan of Earl Street, a family of remarkable and diversely talented people. Mary shared her talents with the Chancery Office of the Catholic Diocese of Rochester, the Haloid Company, Bishop McCafferty at Sacred Heart Cathedral and Father Wheeland at Holy Cross Church in Charlotte. But most of all, Mary was Mom - loving, teaching, guiding, comforting, listening, helping, protecting her precious (at least she thought so) family. All these things, and many more, she did with her most special partner, Dad.
In the last few years, Mom was presented with another challenge; she was visited by the ravages of Alzheimer's. But even this could not diminish Mom's true nature as she continued her loving and teaching ways. She showed us how to face such devastating circumstances with patience and resolve. The extraordinary care and support provided to Mom, and the entire family, by the staff at the McAuley Center and the ILS will forever be remembered and, as Mom has taught us, we say "Thank you".
Thank you Mom for all the gifts you gave us, especially for the present of your presence. May eternal light shine upon you and may you go now in peace, faithful friend of God.
Family and friends may call Sunday 7:00-9:00 and Monday 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 at the Farrell-Ryan Funeral Home, 777 Long Pond Road (between English & Latta). Funeral Mass at Holy Cross Church on Tuesday at 9:30. Interment, Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In lieu of flowers we would request that donations be sent to the Sisters of Mercy McAuley Residence, 1437 Blossom Road, Rochester, NY 14610 to help them continue their ministry.
P.S. Say Hi to Dad and Greg for us.

To the Tydings Family and Sisters Margaret, Janet and Anne Caufield,

I send my love and sympathy from Chile and please know that I have been thinking of all of you during these days. If there is one outstanding characteristic of the Caufields, it is that of joyful humor. I am sure in all of your sadness you will call up that wonderful quality and it will sustain all of you during your moments of loss.

Lots of love, Doris Hamilton
