Peter Louis
Rochester: August 9, 2017 at the age of 76. Predeceased by son-in-law, Mike Brown. He is survived by his solemate, Christine Samuel; children, Caroline, Philip (Jenny), Richard (Joanna), Candace Brown, Jacqueline, Alexander, Rebecca; 11.5 grandchildren, Silver, Lucia, Jackson, Layla, Aubrey, Brooklyn, Kc, Mikey, Michaela, Peter, Isobel; sisters, Vicki (Buzz) Underwood, Penny (Barry) Zeplowitz; nieces and nephews, Jeffery, Tracy, Derek, Michael and Nicole.
Peter was born December 21,1940 in Rochester, NY. He graduated from Franklin High School in 1958 and earned a PhD in philosophy from the University of Rochester. Peter married his wife Christine in 1973 and they had 7 children. His priority was taking care of his large family. He especially enjoyed long family vacations into the wilderness of northern Canada and Alaska and frequenting Rochester's unique restaurants and old bakeries. He had a keen interest in and an incredible memory for certain facts and data. Peter loved reading the obituaries, and would frequently exclaim, "Guess who died!" He taught his children that happiness is more important than achievement. Peter will best be remembered for his optimistic viewpoint on life, wisdom, selfless nature and incredible sense of humor. He will be greatly missed.
Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Nature Conservancy of Canada.

I just learned with regret from the UofR alumni magazine that Peter had passed. We used to frequent a coffee house where Bat McGrath and Don Potter used to play., I think it was on or near Ridge Road. I remember several conversations we had and when he had just gotten his PhD. My condolences to his family.

Mr. Samuel - Dr. Samuel, I just learned - was always gentle, kind, and sharing to me, as I grew up hanging out with his eldest. I am grateful for the time I had with him, and I have a very special love for his children, wife, and family.

Peter Louis Samuel, left this life 8/11/2017. I [Victoria -his sister] have so many wonderful memories of him. Below are a few of them:
1.Peter would stop and get me at my pre-school on his walk home from Laurelton School, together we walked the rest of the way home.
2.As a teen, he drove at midnight to SeaBreeze to ride the roller coaster [Jack Rabbit] at midnight. He wanted to ride it in the dark of night.
3.Peter had unusually good sense of direction. So good Dad wanted him in the front seat of our family Plymouth to aid in navigation on our many long trips across the country.
4.He loved taking our pet rabbits outside in all weather conditions to watch them romp in the yard.
5.He often took me for car rides when he got his drivers license.We would stop for ice cream at McConnell's in Pittsford.
6.We walked to 52 school for a running race. He argued with the staff when they awarded the winner to someone other than me. He was very exacting and insisted that I had won. Eventually the Staff reversed the decision and awarded the race to me.
7.Peter was kind to everyone and always had something of interest to talk about. He was quite knowledgeable about Championship Boxing.
8.Peter called the weather bureau daily . He remembered storms and dated of all weather related events in his lifetime.
