To the Grassel Family
I was a classmate of Randy's at McQuaid and we also attended camp together many summers during grammar school, always having a lot of fun together.. ...Randy would make sure I got put in right field so no fly balls would come my way, providing much relief to my non-athletic self. I will remember him fondly. My sympathy to your family.

Dear Grassel Family,
I'm saddened to hear about Coach Grassel's passing. Coach Grassel made such a positive influence on my life. I often think of him and EBA, from midnight madness and watching Pistol Pete to the intimidation in the eyes of our opponents as we ran our tight warm-up drill that Coach Grassel had us practice ad nauseam. Coach Grassel treated us like we were a professional basketball team and we felt like one. To be 11 years old and be a part of something with so much passion and love was life-changing, it made my world a better place, and I'll never forget all that Coach Grassel did for me. My thoughts are with you all.

Patty - Terry, Lexi and I send our condolences. We fondly remember Randy coaching Lexi through EBA, all he taught her and the many weekend trips spent with him and the team. He was a talented coach for girls playing basketball at all ages and a great all- around guy.

Patty, Zeb, Daniel and Jen, Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. Randy has meant so much to our lives and will be terribly missed by all of us. He had such a big influence on Tess and I know that the love was there even after we left the area. We are heartbroken for you all, but know that Randy will be coaching from above and that he can't wait for those grandkids to start playing organized ball. Thank you for sharing him on so many nights, weekends and roadtrips.

Coach Grassel was my coach for AAU about 17 years ago. He always motivated me to do my best. He was an intense, passionate coach. I loved playing for him. So sorry to hear if his passing.

Had the pleasure of knowing Randy a long time ago through my high school friend, his brother Vern. Later was very pleased to have him coach our daughter Colleen playing with Eastside hoops. Was honored to have him as a friend and very saddened by his passing. My thoughts and prayers to all the family.

Randy was a wonderful man/coach and friend who shared an unmatched passion for the game of basketball. Randy had the gift of being able to share this passion with the girls he coached and made them not only better players but better human beings.Randy truly cared about every player he coached and knew how to get the best out of each one of them. Both of my daughters were fortunate enough to have played for Coach Grassel and they were tremendously saddened by his loss. Randy will be missed by an entire community for his passion for basketball, but also for the positive life lessons he taught our children.
