I recall Stan's warm, welcoming manner. A memorable voice and a man who knew and appreciated the popular music of the day. At my Bar Mitzvah dance in 1964, he emceed the affair, spinning the 45 records to all the dances. I can still hear his friendly voice, echoing in my ears.

Douglas family: I knew Stan from his time in Elmira...a truly class guy! That "radio voice." He was a deeper man than at first glance, a very sincere man, a friendly face and always a handshake. RIP my friend.

Our family mornings began with the jingle: "Welcome, welcome welcome. Welcome, welcome, welcome. Welcome, welcome welcome to the bus...With Stan and Russ and Gus. (or with Stan and Russ that's us)...Here we are on the radio, on our bus that's about to go so; Welcome, Welcome, Welcome...to the bus. then we would hear music and lively conversation while we prepared for our day. Every year I saw him as the conclusion of Iszard's Christmas parade. I heard his name associated with many different areas as he served the community. And I called him to learn where my favorite song, "The Whole Town's Talking About the Jones Boy" came from. Through his kindness, as a college student I discovered The Mills Brothers. The world will miss but long remember his kindness.

Mr Douglas was always such a great neighbor in our Hardy School neighborhood. He had a close connection to Santa Clause -- he was such a kind man with a beautiful family. Our Elmira community will miss him. Such great childhood and neighborhood memories of him!

I was sadden at the news of your Dad's passing, but I sure know where he is now! What a bright and shinning star he is in Heaven. I have many happy memories of him and I still hear his happy greeting "Hello fun-seekers". I will be thinking of you all during this difficult time.

Oh Marybeth,
So many memories of your dad with that wonderful big smile...another angel to look over us all. I'm sure he and my dad are swapping stories. It is an honor and privilege to have known him. I always stood a little taller when he walked in the room.
God bless you all.

My friend Stan was a force and a light for good in our world. His smile, caring, thoughtfulness and dedication to helping people will never be duplicated. From spinning records for restless teenagers in downtown Elmira, to commanding the resources of the Red Cross during the flood of 1972, if Stan saw a need, he filled it. There was never a person he would not help, many times using his own resources to do so. He became Chair of the Chemung County Legislature, was a tireless supporter of Catholic healthcare at St Joseph's hospital where he raised millions of dollars to support quality care. He was the first ordained Deacon to serve St Mary's Parish on Elmira's south side and held the record for riding the most consecutive trips on the Eldridge Park roller coaster. My list would fill pages, but his kindness and care for people would need a library. While Elmira was not his home, it was lucky to have such a dedicated leader adopt the city as his own. For all who knew him he was an inspiration. Thank you Stan, you will always be remembered as the pinnacle of human spirit.

My condolences to his family. Remember his polka show. Also he got upset with me when I won so many cases of RC Cola from Welm radio. Great man God bless him.
He preceded my Uncle Gene Martin on polka show, before Gene Martin did it.

Our sympathies go out to Stan's family, he will be missed. He always had a kind word for everyone and hearing his voice on the radio made you feel like he was talking directly to you. Carol and I opened our first baby store, Bibs 'n' Cribs, in 1978 and asked Stan to voice our commercials because he had that soft, familiar sound that you trusted. We always felt Stan was a huge part of our success and will be fondly remembered forever.

I have such fond memories of Mr Douglas. He took me to the radio studio and let me talk on the air and, I found out after a Christmas parade in Elmira that he was Santa! My thoughts and prayers are with your family at this difficult time. Coleen Hubbard Carey
