Thomas H., S. J.
Manila, Phillippines: Died peacefully at his home in San Jose Major Seminary, Manila, Philippines on the morning of March 13, 2009. He succumbed after a two week illness. He is predeceased by his parents, Marie and George; survived by a sister Pidge (John) James, a brother George Chuck (Carol) Green; nieces Peggy (Greg) Lull and Sheila (Joe) Steigerwald and Dore James; nephews Mike (Karen), Tom (Regi), Ned (Lisa), and Steve (Jenny) Green and Steve (Kelley) and Chris (Megan) James; and 22 grandnieces and grandnephews. He was a well known author of books on prayer and spiritual direction. At the seminary he was spiritual director of novices as well as other directees and taught courses on the philosophy of science and language.
Father Green entered the Society of Jesus Novitiate at Poughkeepsie after graduation from Aquinas Institute in 1949. He had taught in the Philippines since 1956, except for studies at Fordham Univ. (M.S. Physics) and Notre Dame (PhD. Philosophy of Science) in the 1960's. Upon returning to the Philippines in 1968 he was fluent in the major dialect, Tagalog, so that he could preach and say mass in the language. Father Green visited the U.S. at every opportunity to keep in touch with the family. He gave retreats and lectures throughout the world from Australia to Malaysia, Britain, the U.S. and Canada.
Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass 10:00 A.M. Thurs. March 19, 2009 at Good Shepherd Parish in the lower level chapel in the school building, 3318 E. Henrietta Rd. Anyone wishing to make a remembrance to Tom can direct donations to the "Marie and George Green Scholarship Fund" for seminarians at San Jose Seminary.

Dear Chuck, I am so sorry to hear of Thom's passing. He ceretainly was a dedicated person to God. I hope the rest of the Green's are good. I am in Florida, now.
