Ulysses Gallanos Obituary

December 30, 1916 - September 16, 2010. Son of the late Alma and Ulysses, a Greek shipping company owner with a factory on Catherine Slip on Manhattan's East Side. Predeceased by wife Dorothy and sister Alma Gloria. Survived by daughters, Susan Barnes (John) of Southold, Priscilla Ruffin (the late William) of Westhampton Beach and Darcy Paddock (Thomas) of Rochester; long time dear companion Chryssa Notara of Greece; grandchildren, Susanne O'Boyle, William Ruffin, Philip Brown, Alex and Annie Grossjohann; 11 great grandchildren and sister Diane.
Graduate of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, New London CT and attended Pratt Institute. Veteran of WW II as officer in the Merchant Marine, survivor of the Murmansk Run in the North Atlantic, one of the most hazardous naval operations of WW II.
Bud had a distinguished career on Madison Avenue pioneering the development of the ad industry for television in the 1950's and 60's and as ad man for Fortune 500 companies such as Kodak, 3M and Olympus before establishing his own ad agency.
A talented artist, Bud also designed and built several homes across Long Island, the East End and in Greece. Bud developed an early appreciation and love for Jazz music and the natural world around him, he was an ardent sailor and restorer of wooden sailboats, often sailing the East Coast waterways.
Into his 90's, Bud shared his talent to promote many charitable organizations including historical societies, neighborhood associations and special services for the United Nations. Bud will be remembered for his style, wit and humor, he was a gentleman to the end.
Services held at Church of the Immaculate Conception, Westhampton Beach. Donations to East End Hospice, PO Box 1048, Westhampton Beach, NY 11978 or the Southold Historical Society, PO Box 1, Southold, NY 11971.
