ASHBURNHAM -- Irma V. (Maki) Leslie, 82, of 11 Meadow Lane, died Saturday, June 26, in HealthAlliance Hospital/Leominster, after an illness.
She was born in Fitchburg on June 28, 1921, the daughter of Walter and Emmi (Rautiainen) Maki, and lived here most of her life.
Mrs. Leslie was a secretary for many years at the Dance Center on Chapel Street in Ashburnham.
She was a very active member of the Ashburnham Community Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years, and was a 50-year member of the Church Choir. She was a member of the Friends of Saima Park, the Golden Age Club, and the Finlandia Foundation of Lexington. She was a volunteer nurses aid, and a 1939 graduate of Fitchburg High School. She was an avid reader, enjoyed music and art, and was also an amateur artist, and was an admirer of ballet.
Mrs. Leslie leaves her husband of 61 years, Raymond L. Leslie; one son, Richard R. Leslie of Lunenburg; two daughters, Susan A. Blouin of Quechee, Vt. and Deborah J. Fairbanks of Westminster; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one niece and one nephew. She was predeceased by one brother, Richard W. Maki of Ashburnham, who died in 1960.
LESLIE -- On June 26, Irma V. (Maki) Leslie, 82, of Ashburnham. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 30, at 10 a.m. in Ashburnham Community Church, 9 Chapel St., Ashburnham. Burial will be in New Cemetery, Ashburnham. Calling hours are Tuesday, June 29, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the Fitchburg Chapel of the Sawyer-Miller-Masciarelli Funeral Home, 129 Elm St., Fitchburg (www.masciarellifamilyfuneralhomes.net). In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ashburnham Community Church Renovation Fund, 9 Chapel St., Ashburnham, MA 01430; or may be left at the funeral home.
