William Smith Obituary
Rochester, NY - Sept 10 at age of 54. Bill is survived by his children, Marlo and Vaughn; mother Jeanne Smith; brother Kevin (Kathleen) Smith; sister Darlene (David) Mandzak; and many, many close friends & colleagues. Bill was predeceased by his son, Graham; father William P. Smith; & niece Virginia Ann Smith.
Bill was born in Yonkers and grew up in Wappingers Falls, New York. He graduated from the University of Buffalo & Cornell Law School. Bill spent his entire career as a trial attorney, as a partner at Woods Oviatt Gilman, and most recently, as a sole practitioner. Bill had a strong drive to help others and was a fierce advocate for his clients, but he was well-liked & highly respected peers. Bill was a gifted litigator known for his sharp legal mind, attorneys often sought his advice on complex procedural issues.
Bill was generous with his time, spending hours coaching youth hockey. "Coach Bill" was there to wipe a nose, tighten skates or give words of encouragement. In spring & summer he was at the park helping Vaughn's Little League team. Bill never missed a game or a practice, keeping sneakers in his car to come from work. He would roll up his sleeves & stand on the field in suit pants, or the sidelines keeping score.
Bill was a loyal friend, remaining close with his many friends from college & law school. Once Bill's friend, you were his friend for life. Bill was also always the first one to help friend or family member. He would pick up the phone or jump in his car any time, day or night.
Bill will be remembered for his sharp wit, incredible work ethic, endless generosity, & drive to help and serve others. Though he found it difficult to ask for help, he was fortunate to have many people who loved and cared about him supporting him as much as he would allow.

Goodbye my friend, one of the first attorneys I had a pleasure to work with and learn litigation. Always ready to work, he will be missed dearly. I'm still in shock, my sympathies to the Smith family.

My deepest sympathy and prayers to all of Bill's family and loved ones . I was very , very sadden to hear of Bill's passing . I love this young man and cherish the memories of all our family gatherings over the years . Always looked forward to our picnics and parties to see him & family .
