Art Stevens Obituary

Art "Benny" Stevens

October 28,1938 - September 17, 2023

Art "Benny" Stevens died peacefully on Sunday, September 17th at Evergreen Hospice House following complications from diabetes.

Art was born on October 28, 1938 to Betty and Pete Stevens in Los Angeles, California, and he was raised in Arcadia, Ca. with his brother Marshall, and sister Josephine.

Art came to OSU for college in 1955 on a Naval scholarship and was affiliated with Phi Sigma Kappa Fraternity. Art lived for his Beavers! Following graduation and his 4 years as a Naval officer, Art married Melinda Lewis in Arcadia and they settled in Albany where he worked for Willamette/Weyerhaeuser Industries until his retirement.

Art and Melinda raised 2 sons, Wade WAHS '84, and Tyler WAHS '87. In Art's younger years he played tennis and then enjoyed golf with his buddies as he got older.

Yearly trips to Kapaa, Kauai with family and friends were highlights, and Art will be remembered for his wit and intelligence.

Art leaves behind his wife, Melinda, both his sons and four grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Wounded Warrior Project in Art's name.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

I´m so sorry to hear of Art´s passing. We floated miles of rivers on rafts. From Idaho to Costa Rica, we were all entertained at camp by Art´s superior stories. Rest in peace my friend.

Art and Melinda lived next door to us for many years in Albany. Art enjoyed coming over for a bowl of Dick´s homemade stew and cornbread. We will miss his sense of humor.
