Ethan Daley Obituary

Ethan Daley

October 24, 1976 - April 24, 2021

In loving memory:

Ethan Daley passed away very suddenly in his home in Philadelphia on April 24, 2021, at the age of 44 years old.

Ethan was born in Athens, Georgia, on October 24, 1976. He graduated from Oregon State University in 2000 in mechanical engineering. He pursued graduate studies at the University of Michigan from 2005 to 2013 in biomedical engineering, earning a PhD and two master's degrees. He worked as a Senior Engineer, Failure Analysis Associate at Exponent in Philadelphia since 2016.

He is survived by his wife, Corine Martineau, mother, Natalie Daley (born Cohen), father, Larry Daley, sisters, Kara Daley (spouse, Poul Petersen and three children) and Jillian Daley (spouse, Pam Haan), parents-in-law, Alain Martineau and Nicole Landry, and many, many other grieving relatives and friends.

Ethan was an intelligent, funny, and kind soul. There are no words to describe the trauma and void his death is leaving behind. He will be painfully missed, and dearly remembered.

Please remember to cherish your loved ones as if they could disappear in an instant. Because they can.

Rather than sending flowers, people who wish to do so may send donations to the Friends of the Wissahickon, a Philadelphia park that Ethan enjoyed hiking in with his wife Corine.

I am so sorry to read of Ethan´s passing. He was one of the brightest and wittiest students that I ever taught. Having Kyle, Cedar and Ethan all in the same class kept me on my toes. They made me a better teacher and gave me a year I thoroughly enjoyed. Ethan was a special person, but how well you already know that. I send you my deepest sympathies. Please extend those feelings to dear Jillian. She also has a special place in my heart.

I am saddened to learn about Ethan´s death. He was once a student of mine, and I remember him fondly. My sympathy goes out to his family and friends.

My dear Jillian, Natalie and Larry,
My heart is broken for you and your family, I cannot imagine what you are going through, to have a brother, son taken so suddenly and so young. I am sending you the biggest warmest hug.

I came from the UK in 1985 to teach for a year on a Fulbright, and one of the highlights that year was having Jillian in my class, such a smart little second grader, who was so full of life and curiosity! Natalie and Larry, you were so supportive as I navigated the "American" language and culture. Teachers should never have favorites but your family really did hold a special place in my heart. Ethan would come to our room often at the end of the day to be with his sister. Such a delight!

I have retired and now live at Roads End, Lincoln City. My number is (541) 908-2713. I would love to connect with you again. If ever you come to the coast please come and visit. I would love to see you again.

Sending lots of love and a big blanket of healing to you at this very sad time.
