Dorcyle McClure Obituary

Dorcyle Kay McClure

Dorcyle Kay McClure, 73, died at her home in Sanger, Texas on the morning of January 18, 2021. Dorcyle was born January 3, 1948 in Maryville, Missouri, the oldest daughter of Glade F. and Venita Ilene (Carroll) Sickels. Dorcyle grew up on the family farm near Athelstan, Iowa. She attended Kindergarten through 5th grades at the Athelstan School. After the school district reorganized to Bedford Community Schools, she attended 6th grade in Blockton, Junior High in Conway, and High School in Bedford, Iowa.

Dorcyle loved music and started piano lessons when she was 16. She was one of the accompanists for the High School's Messiah performance in December 1967. Dorcyle graduated from Bethel College in Mishawaka, Indiana in 1972, earning a B.A. in Music Education.

In 1973 she moved to San Antonio, Texas to continue her schooling. Instead, she took a job with a large newspaper and worked with music in several different churches.

Dorcyle married Don W. McClure on January 28, 1978 at a Lutheran Church in San Antonio. His love for music and incredible keyboard talent drew them together. They moved to Beaumont-Orange-Port Arthur area in Texas where she worked with computer data for the electric utility company. She and Don worked in many churches together as organist and choir director.

They moved to Lake Dallas, Texas for 14 years where they continued part time music work in churches along with other jobs. In 1996 they purchased a home in Sanger, Texas. Dorcyle worked in a variety of jobs including Payroll Manager at Campbell-Taggart, Receptionist at an Optometrist office, a Paraeducator at Selwyn Schools, Senior Secretary of Consumer Sciences at Texas Women's University, and substitute teacher in the Krum School District, all the while involved in church music ministries.

Dorcyle also had a love of reading and loved books. She acquired an amazing home library! She enjoyed helping at the Sanger library and donated many books there. In 2014-2015 she took Library Science classes at TWU and sang in a Women's choir. She has been a member of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church since 1995 and recently served as treasurer for Daughters of the King--the women's ministry that she dearly loved.

Dorcyle loved animals. One of the great joys for her and Don was rescuing dogs and cats. They had many through the years. Her beloved dogs--Kyle and Belle, have now been re-homed to wonderful owners who will care for them the rest of their lives. She also loved horses and volunteered at a ranch which offered horse therapy to children.

Dorcyle is preceded in death by her husband, Don, in 2015, her father in 1994, and her mother in 1978.

Dorcyle is survived by her sisters: Rita Young (Gary), of Omaha, Nebraska, and Ruth Winkler (John Park) of Watauga, Texas; her uncle R.C. Carroll (Marlene) of Sarcoxie, Missouri, her Mother-in-law, Lillian, of Corpus Christi, Texas and her brother-in-law, Chris (Donna) of Odem, Texas. She leaves behind four nieces--Karlene Hamilton, Glenda Hamilton, Joy Winkler, and Rebecca McClure Bryant, one nephew--Nathan Winkler, several great nieces and nephews and a great-great nephew--all of whom she loved dearly!

A virtual "Celebration of Life" Worship is being planned. You may get the link through St. Barnabas Episcopal Church or on the CaringBridge site. Online condolences may be made at www.cokerfuneralhome.com.

A wonderful friend from my student days at Bethel College and companion on that journey through concert choir, voice lessons under Mrs. Tweed, and piano studies under Charlotte Day. Good memories & great music we experienced together.

My heart is with you, Rita, Ruth and all your families. The service was very nice and we will all miss Dorcyle. She has had a wonderful life and has blessed many people in her paths. We have fond memories growing up in Athelstan all together; church services, school in Athelstan, Conway & Bedford, and all the singing together with all 6 of "us cousins". We rest knowing she is with Jesus now. Much love to you all, Sharon.

Dorcyle and her husband stopped by our home on their way home to Texas. We had a lovely visit and dinner at a local Mexican restaurant. She did not leave without making sure we had a little gift from their visit. We enjoyed our brief time together. A delightful lady, would have loved to have seen more of her and been able to know her better.
I am very sorry for your loss Ruth. I know she is missed greatly.
