Gary Coulter Obituary

Gary Wayne Coulter

Gary Wayne Coulter passed away on Thursday October 28, 2021. He was born on August 11, 1951 in Denton, TX to Evalyn Janice Batey Coulter and James Duard Coulter, Sr.

Gary attended Denton High School, and graduated from the University of North Texas with a degree in mathematics in 1975. Gary married Marsha McClean in 1988 and they made their home in Ft. Worth, TX. Gary was a computer programmer in several settings including Tandy Corp, but spent most of his career at Tarrant County Junior College where he supervised the staff and the computer testing at the mathematics testing lab. Gary had a passion for learning and mastering new skills. Early on, he worked on motorcycles, collected comic books and early science fiction and enjoyed pool, chess and of course movies. He would later pursue small boat sailing, stunt kites, wood-working and had the patience for everything from changing a transmission to creating intricate origami. He enjoyed tennis, cycling and ran several marathons. After retiring from TCC, he was able to pursue his interests in new areas of math, computing and general science and participate in a group developing block chain theory and crypto currency options. Gary was a member of Mensa, the RChain cooperative at RChain and the Digital Life Collective organization. He was a lifelong learner who continued to share his knowledge and interests even as he fought a very serious cancer.

Gary was predeceased by his father James Coulter, Sr. Gary is survived by his mother, Evalyn Batey Coulter, wife Marsha McClean, brother Jimmy Coulter, sisters Charlotte Ragle and Cheryl Degan and many aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews, as well as McClean family inlaws.

I will always remember Gary from countless family holidays. Every time I saw him, he shared new hobbies and even though I remember him as generally being quiet, he was so excited to show me or teach me something new. At my wedding in 2015, I loved seeing him enjoying himself and sharing even more with family and friends there. I remember how much fun he had in the photo booth - so excited to try on all the different hats and accessories until he landed on his favorites!
