Hazel Kepford Obituary

Hazel Maureen Haney Kepford

Hazel Maureen Haney Kepford died after a brief illness on December 28, 2021 at the age of 95. She was born in Haslet, Texas to George and Lucille Haney on November 27, 1926. In 1945 she married Robert Jay Kepford and they made their home in Inglewood, California where they raised two daughters, Donna and Kay. Hazel worked as a librarian until her retirement in the early 1990's, and remained very active afterwards, managing rental properties until she was 92. Hazel was fun to be around and had a wonderful sense of humor. She was a good cook and appreciated the latest fashions. Devoted to her family, she cared for and provided for her younger daughter who had serious health problems in adult life. And although she was widowed before she was 50, she never complained or felt that life had treated her unfairly. She was a member of the Westchester United Methodist Church in Los Angeles.

Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her older daughter Donna Marie Kepford, and her sister, Marie Admire. She is survived by her daughter, Kay Maureen Kepford of Norwalk, California, and her nephew Robert C. Admire of Lantana, Texas.

A memorial service will be held at the Good Samaritan Society-Lake Forest Village Chapel, 3901 Montecito, Denton, Texas on Tuesday, January 4, 2022 at 1:00 pm with Chaplain Phillip Johnson officiating. Hazel will be buried beside her husband at the Los Angeles National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Good Samaritan Society - Lake Forest Village, designated to "Spiritual Life Fund" - 3901 Montecito Dr., Denton, Texas 76210.

So sorry to see that Hazel passed away. She was married to my mom's cousin Bob and they lived across the street from my grandparents, Ruby and Glenn Briggs. I used to play with Donna and Kay when I stayed with my grandma and grandpa. I remember Hazel well. She was always dressed so nice when they would have dinner with my parents and grandparents. We always all spent Christmas together at Geraldine's until Geraldine became too ill. I'm sorry to read that Donna has already passed. The last time I saw Kay and Hazel was at my mom's funeral in 2007. Hazel looked great and was still so active. My sister Dede, stayed in touch with Hazel for quite some time after that. Dede passed December 21, 2021 right before Hazel. Please send my condolences to the whole family.
