Mary Bruce Obituary

July 24, 1942  -

September 3, 2022 It is with sadness that we share the passing of Mary Josephine "MaryJo" Bruce on Saturday, September 3rd, 2022, at the age of 79.

MaryJo was born July 24, 1943, in Peoria, Il to William and Lera (Hardin) Bruce. She spent much of her life living in Texas, including Dallas and Denton. She was a lifelong learner and had degrees in Textile Design and Library Sciences. Her career brought her down many exciting paths, including working at the Library of Congress.

Her interests and hobbies were varied and numerous. They included fiber arts, reading, bird watching, jewelry making, ceramics, animal rescue, Appalachian folk music and genealogy. In addition, MaryJo was proud of her Scottish ancestry. She studied Gaelic, took bagpipe lessons and was active in the Scottish community. One of the highlights of her life was travelling to Scotland to study and record traditional fiber art and knitting techniques.

MaryJo was a generous person that was predeceased by most of those closest to her. Contributions can be made in honor of her memory to Operation Kindness in Carrollton, Texas. There are no services planned at this time.

Mary Jo and I were pen-friends for many years and I will miss exchanging letters. I pulled out last years Thanksgiving card she sent this week to display on the table. Her letters will be missed.
