Tanveer Qureshi Obituary

Dr. Tanveer Qureshi

On Sunday, October 21, 2018, Dr. Tanveer Ahmad Qureshi, servant of God, loving husband, father of four children, grandfather of six grandchildren, brother to nine siblings, and friend and healer to many, suddenly passed away at age 74.

Dr. Qureshi was born on January 1, 1944 in New Delhi, India to Rashida Begum and Bashir Ahmad Qureshi. He received his medical degree from Nishtar Medical College of The University of Punjab in Lahore, Pakistan in 1968. Dr. Qureshi immigrated to the United States in 1970. He completed his residency and fellowship at The Cook County Hospital in Chicago, IL. He moved to Denton, TX in 1976 where he was a pioneer of the medical community as the first interventional cardiologist in Denton County. Dr. Tanveer A. Qureshi has served this community for more than 40 years, and served patients in North Texas and Southern Oklahoma. Dr. Qureshi was a member of the medical staff at what was originally Westgate Hospital, which later became Denton Regional Medical Center, and today is Medical City Denton. Dr. Qureshi was a pillar of the North Texas medical community and helped spearhead the development of cardiovascular and critical-care services. He led the effort to introduce cardiac catheterization to the Denton area and performed multiple outreach clinics in order to bring his services to the outlying communities.

Dr. Tanveer A. Qureshi was above all else a man of service. He served God, his family, and his community.

He was a founder and the President of the Islamic Society of Denton, a founder and the President of the Denton Muslim Cemetery, Inc., and founder of the Maharjan Orphanage Foundation. He was known for his leadership, humility, and conviction to do the right thing. There was no job too small for Dr. Qureshi to perform, from planting flowers and weeding the flower beds, to driving his friend to weekly meetings to participate in community planning.

Dr. Qureshi was a loving and devoted family man. Dr. Qureshi believed that education was one of the most important treasures one could earn in ones lifetime. He worked tirelessly to ensure his family received not only a traditional education, but also gained life-experience and knowledge to succeed with exceptional values. Dr. and Mrs. Qureshi are the foundation of their familys moral and practical success. He was a father like none-other, modelling discipline, diligence, perseverance, respect, humility, gentleness, and humor.

Those who worked with Dr. Qureshi comment regularly on his gentleness, and his ability to engage with patients and put them at ease. He also had the same effect on his physician peers, and his health care partners at the hospital. Always the educator, he relished in his responsibility to train his cath lab coworkers and those who followed his patients in the hospital. He believed that helping a colleague to be their best was not only a worthy goal in-and-of-itself, but that they would then be better people for it, and would extend the best of their abilities to the patient. There are a core set of values that defined Dr. Qureshis life and were borne out of his belief in the God-given dignity of all human beings, regardless of race, religion, or income. Dr. Qureshi embodied this by providing compassionate care to members of our community through his abilities as a physician and unyielding patient advocate, his volunteer efforts for the community at large, and his life-long dedication to helping those people who were fortunate enough to have encountered him. Above all else, Dr. Qureshi lived a life of faith, family, and patient care. He left a legacy of devoted patient care that we know will be continued by the members of our local medical community. It is difficult to capture this man in such few words. He will be dearly missed.

Dr. Tanveer A. Qureshi is survived by his wife Nuzhat T. Qureshi; his four children Faraz A. Qureshi, Jawad (Aaleya) A. Qureshi, Razia (Asad) T. Qureshi-Shalami, and Naima T. Qureshi; and his grandchildren M. Zakir Ahmad, Nylah J. Qureshi, Noora J. Qureshi, Amina O. Ahmad, Ayaan A. Qureshi, and Zayn A. Shalami.

I was so saddened to hear of the passing of Dr. Qureshi. He was a kind, compassionate and caring person who I will never forget. I was a patient of his for about 2 years and he diagnosed me with CAD and also saved my life by inserting a stent. I will never forget him and all he did for others to save lives.

Dr. Qureshi will be profoundly missed. I am left with the feeling that a vital lifeline in my world is gone and I am very saddened by his loss. How much harder it must be for his family and others. He was a great comfort to me and my family for over 20 years.

Praying for the family and friends of this wonderful man. I didn't know him personally, just worked in the same facility. A few of my friends worked closely alongside him, though, and they always spoke very highly of him. My condolences to his family, friends, colleagues, and the community he served.

Thanks to the care and knowledge of Dr. Qureshi, my father lived much longer than he would have without Dr. Qureshi's expertise. My heart is sad hearing of his passing. His obituary is a loving tribute to him from his family. I mourn and celebrate with you.
