Theresa Weaver McKinney
Theresa Weaver McKinney, 94, of Highland Village, Texas formerly from Pampa and Horseshoe Bay, Texas, passed away September 19th 2016, just 20 days short of being 95.
Graveside services will be at 1:00 p.m., Friday, Sept. 23, 2016, at Calvert Cemetery in Calvert, Texas. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Theresa was born in Dallas, Texas on October 9th 1921. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Z. Weaver and Mary E. Weaver and her brother, J.Z. Weaver. She married her high school and college sweetheart W. Ralph McKinney in 1943. Ralph McKinney preceded her in death in 1987. Mrs. McKinney will be buried in Calvert, Texas.
Mrs. McKinney was a Baptist. She believed in her heart and confessed with her mouth the salvation that comes from Jesus Christ. She was a member of The Church at Horseshoe Bay.
Mrs. McKinney graduated from Sam Houston High School in Houston, Texas. While in high school she was a proud member of the Scottish Highlander Marching Patrol. A few years ago she was invited to a Highlander reunion as the oldest living member of the Highlanders.
Mrs. McKinney went on to graduate from Baylor University where she received a B.S. Ed. Degree in 1943. Both Theresa and Ralph were fiercely proud of having gone to Baylor and they literally bled green and gold. She never missed listening to or watching a Baylor football game. Theresa and Ralph were long time members of "The Old Main Society" of Baylor University.
Upon graduation from college, Theresa went to Houston where she worked for Sinclair Oil Company while Ralph served in the Navy during WWII. Theresa and Ralph moved to Pampa where they lived until 1979 when Ralph was transferred to Atlanta, GA and Houston, TX until 1982 when he retired from Cabot Corporation and moved to Horseshoe Bay, Texas. During her years in Pampa, she was active in community affairs.
As a mother, she was always there for her sons. Her wise counsel will always be missed by all.
She was an avid duplicate bridge player. She was especially proud of being a Platinum Life Member of the American Contract Bridge League and having attained that status without the assistance of professional players.
Theresa McKinney is survived by William R. McKinney, Jr. and wife Carol, of Amarillo, Texas and Charles Lee McKinney and wife Patrice of Denton, Texas and her special friend for over 20 years, Mr. Jim Short of Summerfield, Texas also formerly from Horseshoe Bay, Texas. Theresa had 5 grandchildren; Joshua McKinney of Denton, Texas, William R. McKinney, III. of Plano, Texas, Alicia McKinney of Grapevine, Texas, James McKinney of Euless, Texas and Christiana Harris of Denton, Texas and had 9 great grandchildren.
