Ann Smith Obituary

Ann McClelland (Annie) Smith passed away peacefully in the company of family and friends. In facing her final challenge, Annie drew from her boundless spring of courage, determination and grace, inspiring loved ones beyond words. Annie was born in Waterbury, Connecticut, the youngest of five children, to Harold Webster Smith and Elizabeth Copenhaver ("Copey") Smith. She graduated from Skidmore College in 1975, majoring in English. She made a career in commercial insurance, including starting the Woodlawn Insurance Network. Annie's life was enriched by her love of family and friends. Her Mom and Dad were never far from her mind, and her nieces and nephews were a source of pride. Annie cared deeply for those close to her and touched many lives in her most special, sensitive way. Annie's lifelong passion for words, and her finely honed skill to use them most expressively and to maximum effect, led to a lifetime of learning and continual personal growth. She wrote with grace and precision, lending her own spirit to each passage or communication. Her quick wit brought laughter easily. Annie loved nothing better than a good conversation over a glass of wine into the wee hours. Annie faced her challenges bravely and without complaint, no matter how daunting or insurmountable they seemed. She was undeterred by the loss of her right leg just below the knee thirty years ago. After undergoing multiple surgeries, she kept her vow to finish the 10k Bolder Boulder road race, finishing in Bronco stadium where she also cheered her beloved Broncos to back-to-back Super Bowl titles. Annie is survived by her brothers Hal and Jim and her sister Maggie. She was predeceased by her brother Rob. She leaves eight nieces and nephews and four godchildren. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Mount Saint Vincent's Home in Denver and the American Cancer Society. Please visit www.fairmountfuneralhome. com for Annie's full obituary.

I went to McTernan with Annie back when the girls left after fourth grade. I still remember her as a kind soul who was a friend to everyone. She was never the type to engage in the teasing we hear so much about these days. My condolences go out to her family and friends. It sounds like she will be greatly missed.
