TUCKER, BRYON
A lifelong educator with a career spanning more than three decades as a public school principal in Jefferson County, Byron Tucker, 70, passed away May 2 in Pueblo after bravely battling cancer for over a year.
During his distinguished career, Byron touched the lives of an estimated 50,000 students and thousands of teachers. His public education expertise led to a request by the U.S. Government to help develop a Saudi Arabian training center in 1983. A year later, Governor Richard Lamm appointed Byron to a state task force on education and the workplace.
Since retirement in 1994, Byron's passion for helping people was demonstrated by his involvement in several community organizations. Most notably, he was the Board President for CASA, a non-profit child protection organization in Corpus Christi, Texas. He also volunteered for several medical missions with his church to aid the poor in Latin America. In Pueblo, Byron volunteered for the COOP, an agency serving the indigent.
Byron loved gardening, hiking, cooking and travelling. But his greatest joy was his family. Survived by his wife, Eva, Byron had two children, Bob Tucker and Elizabeth Van Beek, as well as three stepchildren; Christine Beard, Kim Kennedy and Scott Beard. He also leaves behind eight grandchildren and a sister, Ginny Watkins of Centennial.
Services are being held May 9 at 6:30 p.m. at the Church of the Ascension and Holy Trinity in Pueblo. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the CASA organization in your community.

Byron, you are missed greatly by all who have had the honour and pleasure to have spent time with you. As one of your extended family I will always be grateful for you making me so welcome in your home and your life. Your caring nature and unfailing willingness to help others was always there for all to see.
I seem to have taken on the role of unofficial Byron Tucker ambassador to Scotland. Everyone who met you and Eva on your trip to Scotland has been not only greatly saddened by your moving on to God's Great Golf Course but they are also full of praise for you! You made a great number of friends on this side of the pond. They all remember a great guy who showed interest in everyone and everything, despite probably not catching everything with our accents. You made a great impression over here Big Man!
Oh and Byron! We still have some unfinished business! There is the small matter of a return round of golf and even more importantly we have a whisky tour to finish. We will meet up one day to enjoy both!
In the mean time, I and all your friends will raise our dram in your honour! Take care dear friend.
